Alan was always gonna be the narrator. When we all came in for the first full cast read through he asked if he could play the Dad too. We discussed at length whether this would be too confusing but it was fine on the test audiences. Probably 1 in 500 people mention it!!

The book is, as you know, a list of fixtures - brilliantly described by Dave. With a family movie you are always gonna need a strong love interest, a big story arc, twists and a big happy ending - that's where I came in. The good news is that Dave really loved the script.
