I can have a fair bit of sympathy with some of that. There is certainly a debate to be had whether he has outlasted his usefulness.
In the same way that Hughton had gone as far as he could with Brighton and was in danger of major regression if he continued Southgate could be at that point...
Yeah, far longer than I imagined! Especially as it's essentially different ways of saying the same thing.
As for laughing at England failing, that's the nub of it isn't it?
You like England failing and so will use any stick you can to beat as much enjoyment out of it. And that @Neville's...
If that was the only point that people were making I'd leave them to it. The man clearly has limitations. He also clearly has some positive qualities too.
I have no interest in watching that game again, it was a hard enough watch the first time.
The point is, it was a final, only the second...
Southgate's record is second only to Sir Alf Ramsey's. That's fact.
People's arguments against him would be much better served if they acknowledged and accepted that. They would be even better served if they didn't try and beat him with the we should be winning trophies with the squad he has...
I think it would drive quite a few of us English nuts too. I'd never really noticed it until we made the Euros final. It was incessant, over the top bollocks for days leading up to the game. I love football and I love England and it drove me nuts...and I don't even live in the uk!
As I was saying to Neville's Breakfast, if it was a home kit then they could guarantee it's use. They've never claimed a home kit couldn't be guaranteed to be worn before.
If it's an away kit in the colours of two of our opponents and not needed for the third team then the caveat that it...
I guess. It just seems to me to be a very loose use of language if that's what they mean. It doesn't make too much sense to me but then lots of things don't!
Either way, we'll find out soon enough.
But then they wouldn't say we can't guarantee it'll be worn because of kit clashes. If it was the Europa league shirt they could guarantee it would be worn - at every home match.
As far as I'm aware they've never claimed they couldn't guarantee us wearing a home kit before.
On a similar theme whenever there's an article with the abbreviated British Horse racing Association in the headline I always - always - think it's about the Albion. Bloody BHA(the horsey not footballing one).
On the club website it says:
Please note due to kit clashes, we cannot guarantee this shirt will be worn at Europa League matches.
That suggests it's an away shirt. Otherwise we 100% could guarantee it being worn at least three times. Unless I'm missing something obvious?
So was I. He had taken us as far as he could but that in no way detracts from the incredible job that he did and the respect that we all(or most of us) have for him.
