Except that you’ve answered none of my points and questions, especially about what you would have done at the South end if you were a police officer. Charge into the crowd? Can you think why they might not have opted to do that?
I’m entrenched in my position insofar as I can understand why the...
I’ve seen no public announcement about this, just as we saw no public announcement from the Dutch after the Amsterdam game about pursuing British beer luzzers. I’m not sure if it’s customary to get a statement unless there’s been serious violence, looting, rioting etc. Holding a flare is illegal...
No. That’s not what I said.
A lot of scary looking blokes get arrested, every day of the week. But if the scary guy is in a crowd of hundreds of other scary guys, it’s a totally different situation. Is it fair? No. Is it understandable why a police officer, or even 10 police officers, will...
Whataboutery is exactly what it is. The bloke threw a smoke bomb onto the pitch. f*** him. He’s an idiot. Let’s prosecute him. Maybe it will stop others from doing the same. If he gets off with a warning and a few free pints when he’s next in his local, do you think it’s more or less likely that...
No, you’ve misunderstood.
The two situations were different. The police at the NS end did what they thought was right in the circumstances. They arrested a man who threw a smoke bomb or flare, whatever, onto the pitch. I can’t criticise that decision.
The police at the South End did what they...
No. You're mixing up justice with policing. Two quite different things.
I've said why I think the police behaved differently towards the two incidents. To me, it's obvious.
My point is that it would probably be inadvisable to wade into the OM crowd at any point unless it's a very serious offence. Policing is all about assessing a situation. The two ends of the ground posed different problems yet we're pretending they were the same.
Context is everything. I'm sure there would be operational/security reasons. Can you imagine the carnage if the police went into the crowd to seize individuals from Marseille? If someone is spotted stabbing another supporter, yes of course they would. Holding a flare? Mm, probably not worth...
I've seen no announcement about the club and police doing nothing about the Marseille fans' behaviour. It's pretty obvious that it's harder to single out individual away fans and arrest them, especially when you're trying to manage an already volatile situation, and when the fans in question are...
Is it just a quirk of fate that we've conceded goals in every Premier League game we've played since Arsenal away in May, but have managed to keep clean sheets in our last 4 Europa League games? Is there a logical reason for this? It's perplexing me.
The sarcy emoji was aimed at the bit I'd bolded in your quoted post, not your comment about the plural of Twix, which was actually quite convincing 🙂. As a rule I almost never comment on people's grammar, especially in an age of unintended, quirky keyboard behaviour. But if someone makes a point...
No reason for it to be a legal requirement to insure one’s own health but there may be a sort of mandatory 3rd party liability insurance in case you accidentally end someone else’s career. Clubs do insure players against permanent injury to help protect their investment. I’m sure some policies...
