[TV] Wacky Races or Scooby Doo

When watching Wacky Races, I always used to think: "Dick Dastardly, if you simply continued driving, rather than stopping to put in place some fiendish, but flawed, cheating plan to scupper the other drivers, you'd win anyway."! Maybe I overthought it, even as a child :)

    All things Paul Weller.

After the brilliance of The Jam, I kept thinking that The Style Council was intended to be a massive piss-take. And given Weller's political views, it seemed a horrible and perverse celebration of Yuppies, Sloanes, and braying Hoorahs in the mid-1980s.

[Albion] Tony Bloom and the Heathrow 38

Always amazed that 'our Tony' travels to away games by public transport (train or plane) when he could easily afford his own private jet or helicopter, or be chauffeured. Another example of what a remarkably down-to-earth guy he is, and how privileged we are to have him as our chairman.

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Never mind that; I lie awake at night worrying about the seven household-waste bins!

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Yes, in the sense that it would be better for the Tories when students are back at home, so that their vote is spread through (mainly) the Tory Home Counties. In some constituencies, the large numbers of students would boost the Labour vote during term time. Of course, this feeds into the...

Yet the Tories often warn us that "Labour will take us back to the 1970s."

I actually agree with eradicating smoking among young people, but can also imagine the Tory outrage if a Labour government proposed this; they'd be allegations of 'a nanny state', curbs on individual liberty, and a Woke health agenda.

So environmentalists temporarily blocking roads are deemed to be anti-social criminals who deserve to be locked-up. but motoring Gammons who vandalise speed-limit signs and ULEZ cameras are freedom-fighting heroes according to the self-proclaimed Party of law-and-order. Hypocritical scum

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Oh, they'd be blaming a Labour government if it had been in power for the last few years; but when it's a Tory government...silence! I still encounter people who are silent about the £ billions spaffed since Covid, but who bang on about Gordon Brown selling our gold reserves. The same people...

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Except that every policy pronouncement and speech by the Tories this week is being cheered to the rafters by the Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph, whereas every policy pronouncement and speech by Labour next week will be totally misrepresented, branded as loony, or condemned as unaffordable, by...

    [TV] Magpie or Blue Peter

"Shep, get off Petra"! Yeah, I can't explain why, but Blue Peter always seemed more 'authentic'; more Premier League compared to Championship Magpie. Similarly, I've always preferred watching football matches on BBC than ITV; just prefer BBC's commentary somehow.

    [Misc] Paper rounds

Yup, the same with my after-school paper round in Lancing/Sompting. I'm sure that was what first prompted my contempt for the rich at a relatively young age!
