I was 11 and apart from an event 3 years earlier it was the most cosmic thing that had happened in my lifetime. Now everyone is trying to deny it happened!!
We did win the WC though!!!
Like others have said one of those players who formed part of my early days watching football on TV, sure he played in the first MOTD I ever watched. Also sure I saw him at the Goldstone playing for Tranmere towards the end of his career.
RIP
I was working for a large recruitment firm in Central London and they were having a client entertainment thing for one of the 2006 WC England games with a big screen in their huge boardroom, drinks canapés etc. There was a guest pundit to discuss the match at HT/ FT. Alan Mullery! He came in...
Of course it wasn't. It was a 2nd yellow. I've seen a lot of comments in the press questioning whether it deserved a red card, which it didn't, but that misses the point as it didn't get one. It was cumulative. For balance I have also seen quite a few articles critical of Rice's stupidity.
I have to say when I saw our opening 3 fixtures back in June I was concerned. So happy with 3rd after 3 and don't think we will be 38th at the end of the season.
We seem to have established an MO where players that play the game and respect the club will be supported in moving on to the next stage in their career, where players that take the piss have to wait for us to get maximum wonga.
This also troubles me greatly. I can only think that these people are "Republicans" who would rather vote for that tosser than any Democrat, however comparably decent.
I agree. Think 2 of the candidates are/were just top grade wind up merchants, but the other 2 actually go out to hurt people. Genuinely think it's unfair to put Zaha in the same category, much as I dislike him.
Didn't our own mad psychopath, Andone, get a retrospective ban for a bad tackle (nowhere near as bad as Williams') against WBA in the cup a couple of years ago?
Agree re moving on though even after this morning's news.
I certainly would be just as angry if it was an established player.
I have seen a couple of posts criticising FH for playing him the day after signing in a "meaningless match"?? One of these was on the BBC site. Dont get that at all.
