[Misc] Have you put the heating on yet? (2022/23 edition)

I'm still tweaking the settings on my thermostat as you can vary the target temperature throughout the day. I'm gradually turning it down as it certainly seems to be calling a bit too much in the evening at the moment. The main issue we've had during the day is the temperature in the study...

[News] Moving next to a venue...and then making a noise complaint

Wasn't there a case of a man moving next to a sports stadium and then spending several years trying to have the resident football team evicted?

Ally McCoist needs new specs if he thinks Christiano Ronaldo touched that!

[Football] World Cup - Day Seven

I can't believe how poor Argentina have been. Their passing and decision making has been slack... with the exception of Macca who they finally started passing to towards the end of the first half, and who promptly started driving at the Mexicans. He lifted the tempo. Nice finish for that...

    [Politics] Eddie Izzard

It seems to me that the whole choose your own preferred pronouns thing is a bit of a fad (though I could be proven wrong on that). It just isn't worth getting upset over a male being referred to as him, or a female as her. I was going to write a longer post from here, but it was getting...

Worse than that, he deliberately moved across the goalies eye-line, I'd be giving him pelters at half time if that was my goal that got disallowed!

Blair and Brown. I agree that devolution was half-arsed, it was certainly met with apathy in Wales where I was living at the time and the turnout on the vote was barely 50%.

[News] Sturgeon et al lose indyref2 court case

What was daft was that when the Scots ran the UK and brought in devolution they didn't consider it an option for England.

I doesn't have anything to do with the English or England, it is the UK Government not allowing another referendum.

[News] Sturgeon et al lose indyref2 court case

If the SNP had done a better job of convincing their own population to a) vote, and b) vote remain then the whole joining the EU point for them would have been moot. 67% turnout in Scotland and about a million voted leave (1.6 million remain) against a 72% national average turnout. There was...

[News] Sturgeon et al lose indyref2 court case

If the Scots want more influence at a UK level they'll need to start voting for the UK wide parties again. They seem to have forgotten that a) they have a disproportionately high number of MPs given their population, and b) they had a decade from 1997 when most of the top Government jobs were...

[Misc] Have you put the heating on yet? (2022/23 edition)

I took advantage of the poor weather yesterday and replaced a bit more of the old insulation in the roof. I've also knocked the thermostat program settings down half a degree throughout the day as I noticed it was a bit too warm last night. If that works okay I'll do the same for the other...

Yes, it is a tricky balancing act, though I'd argue that any 'journalist' that perpetuates a lie to suit a narrative would be more accurately labelled a propagandist.

    [Technology] Elon Musk and Twitter

I kind of accept your first point, though it is a rather grey area as the context and motivation behind the lie would rather determine whether society would accept it as free speech. As for your second point, why on earth would you need a 'Ministry of Truth'? Lies are exposed by ordinary...

I'd agree with that, having just finished a two storey side extension to our house a year ago it is noticeable that new part of the building retains it's heat much better than the older part.
