You need to stop singing…….from the EU Commission’s own webpage. “Binding implementing measures to ensure uniform application of the VAT Directive can be found in the VAT Implementing Regulation (Council Regulation (EU) No 282/2011Search for available translations of the preceding linkEN•••)...

    [Politics] Cost of Living Crisis

Yeah, because the desire to be able to elect representatives to sovereign and accountable power in this country, with the unencumbered ability to set laws and taxes is clearly synonymous with supporters of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Spare me another banzai charge please.

Interesting, we should add “collectivisation under communism” into the mix there too; in Russia and China alone deaths mainly through famine caused by collectivisation initiatives would be on its way towards total deaths in WW2. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Leap_Forward...

If the quid pro quo for the billions of euros of infrastructure is the interference of unelected foreign officials into the workings of a democratically elected Polish Govt, including €1m a day fines etc. then that’s a question only the poles can answer isn’t it...

    [News] Jimmy Carr

Indeed, we live in interesting times, many of those that would define themselves as liberal are the most censorious, when these kind of storms blow up I genuinely think we are not far away from such liberal groups literally burning the books of authors they disagree with. Ironically, the last...

Couldn’t agree more, we have left and the war should be over. It’s not though, like this thread proves, we have fanatical Japanese style Herberts holed up in the long grass resplendent in their piss stained fatigues still pining to be part of the wider lebensraum. I think the last one was...

Interesting website, an earlier article seems to frame the poison. https://notesfrompoland.com/2021/12/16/polish-pm-urges-eu-to-allow-vat-cuts-on-fuel-and-food-to-soften-blow-of-inflation/ Poland had to request from the EU Commission, (not the Parliament I note) permission to reduce some of...

You said reduced, not removed. We can’t remove VAT in the EU. FACT. So I understand, great news for Pension and Investment funds isn’t it?

Sounds like you lack ambition. I think VAT on energy should be removed completely, you want it reduced. What I want can’t be achieved in the EU.

Seek and ye shall find……no doubt more to your taste. https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/nickrobinson/2008/10/the_corfu_story.html A Senior Tory MP, a Senior Labour MP, an ex EU Trade Commissioner, a Russian Oligarch, Rupert Murdoch and a member of the Rothschilds………all on a yacht together, what could...

No it’s not, EU countries work within minimum rates of VAT set by the EU commission. Any other country not in the EU can do whatever it likes, as agreed by its own elected representatives. It’s that simple.

    [Politics] Cost of Living Crisis

Can they reduce them to 0% or are they operating within minimum rates set by the EU? The U.K. could reduce them to 0% and more importantly should. Any U.K. Politicians that say they will reduce or remove rates and then renege on such promises should be punished……they have complete control now...

Was Peter Mandelson elected by the EU Parliament when he became its trade commissioner? I think its approach is closer to how a politburo works……..powerful people appointing their mates to powerful posts.

    [Politics] Cost of Living Crisis

Are you saying Spain is now exempt from ALL the EU VAT Directives which set minimum rates? Outside the EU the U.K. (like any other independent country in the world) can set it own rates, NO minimum rates. If politicians decide not to reduce rates when they have promised to they can be...

    Welcoming refugees. Well done Brits!

Of course it’s viable, and more importantly it’s necessary to alleviate the political consequences that are going arise when taxes and the cost of living is going up for U.K. citizens is going up. Putting ever increasing numbers of asylum seekers in Hotels with taxpayers picking up the bill is...

    [Politics] Cost of Living Crisis

The U.K. can now reduce its VAT rates on things like energy costs. We couldn’t do that when in the EU as they were set by the EU Commission which no one in the U.K. elected. Those U.K. politicians that promise the U.K. electorate that they will take advantage of the freedom to reduce VAT tax...
