[NSC] I smashed up my strimmer, and I don't want my wife to know

Strimmers are okay at cutting grass but they can't cut through wood (border edging). The nylon cutting chord will break. Even a new strimmer won't resolve your issue. On your knees with a pair of shears will give best results and be more environmentally friendly too.

[Albion] Andy aka The Other One gofundme

Clearly, then, the ideal gift is - a nice bottle of Claret for the good Samaritan restauranteur .... Best make sure it's an Italian one so as not to offend - can you even get Italian Claret?

    [Humour] Middle aged absent-mindedness

It's not that your brain is full, if using the hard drive analogy, it's that the FAT (file address table aka index) has become corrupt or damaged. The data has not left your brain, only that it is temporarily inaccessible. As soon as you get a reminder trigger you realise you'd not forgotten...

[Finance] Car Ins - windscreen replacement & NCB

On renewals, Martin Lewis talks about an optimum sweetspot of 21 days prior to expiry to obtain a new quote. Apparently, insurance companies look favourably upon folk who seek quotes at this 3 week window ...

[Finance] Car Ins - windscreen replacement & NCB

Correct, they don't shatter in to pieces but the whole screen goes crazy-paving effectively meaning you can't see anything out the front. Bit like closing your eyes. If it happens at 40+ MPH you could crash into anything while standing on the brake pedal. Happened to me and it ain't funny.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Indeed, a war of attrition where one side appears to hold no value for infantryman lives because they have significantly greater numbers. My fear is that Ukraine will eventually run out of soldiers. Female vet working as frontline medic, inspiring but so sad ...

[Finance] ******** The Scam Thread *********

With emails that look to come from someone you know. Look very carefully at the email address - whilst the name may be familiar - the actual email address / mailbox won't be. Subtle difference between spoofing an email address, not full-on hacking - quite easy to do. The one wanting Amazon...

    [Misc] Old skool ciggies

A genuine "well done" to all the regulars that have given it up long term. My dad was a 40 a day Piccadilly tip until early 70s. He's now 97 and a picture of health. I dabbled with Players no 6 and no 10 and Consulate - just didn't like it ...
