That's what I was saying - there is only 1 possible word which could have been the starter according to the crossword solver website I used. If you reverse engineer the first attempt the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th letters are known.

There is only 1 word possible to fit the 1 yellow position (which is now known and therefore technically green) and the 3 green correct letters...

It would be interesting to see his stats to back up the claim. I would imagine there must be many more legs of darts played in a professional season than frames of snooker making the likelihood of a 9 darter greater if they were of equal probability. There is also more ways to make a 9 darter...
