    [News] School strikes

Erm, because the "real terms" thing isn't what actually happens. An increase in pay is a increase in pay, it isn't ever actually a pay cut.

    [News] School strikes

I'm not arguing against increasing a persons income at all, and having worked in the annuity sector many years ago I certainly don't have a problem with RPI and CPI being used in pensions as that is what actuaries are employed to work out how to cost! The only argument I am making is that not...

    [News] School strikes

You haven't misunderstood, and your example is correct. I'll admit I have a problem with the expression "real terms" as it is somewhat loaded, in my opinion, to suggest something is simple that doesn't correspond to the rather more complicated reality. Not all prices go up, not all prices go...

    [News] School strikes

I doesn't show they've had a pay cut at all, what it purports to show is that prices are increasing faster than wages. Everyone would like their wages to increase higher than prices, or at the very least in line with them.

    [News] School strikes

I agree entirely with your sentiment as it happens. We absolutely should be investing in quality in our education. I was disappointed that that graph doesn't really show anything useful unfortunately, and I suspect it makes the mistake I mentioned earlier of conflating price inflation with...

    [News] School strikes

It is a mistake to conflate price inflation with wage inflation, as they do not go hand in hand. Nobody refuses a pay rise when prices aren't going up do they? I'm not taking a side one way or another on whether the teachers should be striking btw, my opinion is that pay should be set at a...

... and National Insurance is not a savings scheme, people contributing NI now are paying the state pensions of those who are in receipt of it now.

[News] A transgender woman has been found guilty of rape ..

Nah, they just need to be relabeled: Prison for people who have a penis. Prison for people who don't have a penis. Same applies to toilets, though I guess some people might find the signage offensive as both would have a picture of the male member...

[Albion] Graham Hunter big interview with Adam Lallana

He does seem to be a proper technique and tactics nerd, so that wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Eddie Howe at Bournemouth is probably quite contemporary.

[Football] Leandro Trossard **Sold To Arsenal 20/01/2023**

Good player for us, exciting on his good days. It's been clear for a while that he'd move on, so this is a good deal all round I think.

[Albion] What are the main differences between Potterball and De Zerbi ball?

I'm interested to see how our play evolves when we encounter teams that employ a low block, as that has been something Potter never quite worked out a counter to.

[Albion] What are the main differences between Potterball and De Zerbi ball?

Much more baiting of the high press by the defenders in order to transition through two midfield pivots to quick attacks by the wide players. Much more one touch play. So the possession approach is maintained, but we are less likely to give the opposition time to recover to a defensive position.

[Albion] Should it have been a penalty?

It was clearly offside from my view in the WSU, the decision to overturn by VAR was never in doubt.

[Football] MOTD - 22:30 BBC One

How on earth VAR decided Rashford wasn't interfering with play there when he has shepherded the ball across a City defender into his teammates feet I'll never know.
