    [Politics] The Labour Government

You should have a look back at the Tory threads. Start circa 2010 🤣

    [TV] Slow Horses.

Just smashed through series four on my night off. One of the best so far, I think. Bizarrely the only let down for me was Hugo Weaving. But his character served a purpose so it’s only a minor gripe. Great stuff. Some of the best telly of recent years.

    [Music] Great “worst” albums

Pixies - Bossnaova. Not trashed by anyone but generally considered their weakest. Not a bit of it! Velouria Is she weird Hang Wire And many more. Banging tracks. The worst album by Pixies is better than most albums. ‘tis a shame most people’s experience of Pixies is the couple of songs...

[Film] Best Film you have probably never seen?

The Browning Version with Albert Finney as Andrew Crocker Harris gets my vote. And Greta Scatchi in her absolute prime. Rarely shown on telly. I stumbled across it while channel surfing late one Saturday night many years ago. “you shall get exactly what you deserve. No less and certainly...

No worries. And yes, a great film. Rich in every way.

    [Music] The Greatest Band ever!

My two equally great, greatest bands of all time. Both playing my favourite songs of theirs. Both my favourite live performances of each song. The Clash. I mean come on! Just sublime.

[Film] Best Film you have probably never seen?

Sorry. No need to get nasty. I was just looking for clarification. You titled the thread the best film you have NEVER seen but then go on to describe in great detail a film you have seen. Can you not see where the confusion has arisen? Anyway, thread that’s been done hundreds of times in...

[Film] Best Film you have probably never seen?

I’m not sure what the question means, given your post. You have seen it or you haven’t? Sorry, confused

    [Misc] Frank Skinner podcast..

For those, like me, who enjoyed Frank Skinner’s radio show/podcast on Absolute, today he’s launched his new podcast. Same team back; Frank, Emily, and Pierre. Very happy to have him back. https://www.standard.co.uk/culture/music/frank-skinner-absolute-radio-mbe-bbc-b1186314.html

    [TV] Slow Horses.

Restarted my apple subscription for series 4. Can’t get anything to play. Anyone got any suggestions?

[News] Death Row - Which would you choose?

Firing squad seems to be the most instant and painless. So I’d go for that. It’s got a historic appeal too. If “appeal” is the right word. The lethal injection is about as far from “slipping into a peaceful sleep” as it’s possible to get, from what I’ve read.

    [Drinking] Lunchtime Drinking (70s80s)

I very briefly worked at a Job centre in Brighton. The now defunct one on Upper North Street. Circa 2002 There was a smoking room there. A small box room filled with smoke where people would smoke and play cards and dominoes. Needless to say, the people that frequented that room also like a...

    [Drinking] Lunchtime Drinking (70s80s)

When I worked at Legal and General in Dorking in the 90’s, Friday afternoon piss ups were the norm. A few of us took a sheep and a goat into a pub one afternoon and all is L&G mob were banned for a while. We all went back the following Friday and proceeded to get pissed again.

    [Drinking] Lunchtime Drinking (70s80s)

So many men spent so much of their life pissed in the U.K. up until about 2005

    [Drinking] Lunchtime Drinking (70s80s)

Yeah. Teachers stank of booze most afternoons. In the late 90’s and early 00’s we’d quite often sink 4 points on a lunch hour and head back to work. And smoked in the pub while doing it.
