    [Albion] Albion notables

I think Lewis has a realistic chance of breaking the appearances record: he needs 150 more (3/4 more seasons).

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

There’s always a deal to be done and that’s what Orban is playing for. Ever since he came to power he comes across as being pro Russia / anti Euro - and that’s not what the EU or the world currently needs. He’s simply blackmailing the EU - he can’t seriously believe the Hungary’s lot is better...

[Albion] Facundo Buonanotte **On Loan To Leicester 10/08/24**

He played well, with more energy and aggression than previously. Probably his best game to date. He’s taken time to settle in - as did McCallister.

    [Albion] Referee tonight

Thought he was one of the best refs we’ve had this season - which admittedly doesn’t say much about the others. He didn’t have any really big decisions to make, but I didn’t think he got much wrong. As much as we’d want a perfect refereeing performance we’re never going to get it.

[Football] "I don't like VAR any more"

That’s true, but we still experience them getting that wrong by eg. Drawing the line incorrectly

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

It seems as if Guyana / Venezuela might also provide another distraction for the US. Meanwhile, Putin shocked the world last week in announcing he will be standing in Russia’s next “election” - is it first past the post or PR over there?

    [Misc] Old board games

Escalado - great horse racing game. Got it 2nd hand for about £20 - just need to buy a new table for around £400 to accommodate it.

[Football] "I don't like VAR any more"

VAR was introduced to improve decision making by the officials. I thought it was supposed to intervene only in situations of “clear and obvious errors” but it doesn’t: it puts under the microscope the marginal offsides and the most extreme “hand ball” decisions that ends up spoiling the...

    [Football] Alex Neil sacked.

Colin is one year younger than Roy, so his appointment would obviously be a progressive, ambitious and long term investment

    [Albion] Positives from Today (Burnley)

We didn’t experience our usual home defeat to Burnley. We got a point which keeps us in touch with the right end of the table (or, for the pessimists, we’re 1 point closer to the magical 40) We played very well in the 2nd half and created lots of chances - scoring our 99th goal this year...

[Albion] Back in the days before the internet

Yes good old James Alexander Gordon. Before he announced the score you could tell by the pitch in his voice if a team had won, lost or drawn

[Albion] Did… did we just play with a Libero?!

Brentford are usually dangerous on the counterattack and I think our defensive shape was designed to guard against that - which worked other than for the penalty! Allowed Gross and Hinshelwood to play further up - and both scored. I’m probably not alone in sometimes looking at our line up and...

[Albion] Just what was Brentford's gameplan?

Yes, I thought it was strange that they played so deep when they were 2-1 down - often 11 men in their final third.

    [Albion] Stand Or Fall Premiere

I thought the DoY was only showing Zulu this week?

[Travel] Can anyone on here act as a witness to ....

Sorry to hear that - the trains were very busy so hopefully you’ll find witnesses. Unfortunately, finding the 2 idiots in a place like Croydon might prove to be difficult.

    [Albion] Chelsea odds on tomorrow.

Should be beating teams like Chelsea

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Not been a good week for Putin: the tank factory, the tunnel and I saw too that a couple of days ago Ukraine hacked into Crimea’s tv network to broadcast an address by Zelensky. The front line is crucial- but war isn’t just about the front line

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Not sure I’d want to raise one child, let alone 8 or more, in that country.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

…and yet Russians yearn for the return of the Soviet Union. The west needs to stand firm and not believe a single word spoken by anyone in that regime.

    Bell Cheeses at work

“Level set” is a new corporate phrase invented by someone who thinks they are very, very clever and very important and indispensable.
