After a quarter of the season we are in 5th place having played four of the ‘big six’ and Newcastle away. To say we are ‘nowhere near good enough to get a European place’ is clearly reactionary nonsense.
Sometimes these threads are easier than others. Today was a sore one in the end but so many positives:
- we have taken seven points from 9 which after the Chelsea performance/result seemed unlikely.
- Welbeck was fit and scoring despite our worst fears last week
- Rutter goes from strength to...
There’s no one I wanted to score more. That could be huge for the season as we can continue to rest and rotate Welbeck with Ferguson having his confidence back. Absolutely fantastic .
This is an interesting one. In the last few seasons our Achilles heal has been against teams in the bottom three who have been on a really poor run. If we can start more regularly winning those games alongside the results we are getting against the bigger teams we really will be onto something.
Just checked and he’s played all but 24 minutes in the league this season. Thats absolutely phenomenal for a player of his age and no one else comes close accept Lewis Dunk who has only played 9 minutes more.
It looks like a massive error by McKenna as well. He would have had it all with us and if he’s ambitious it was the perfect step to go all the way. I think the fact that he was linked to Chelsea and Man Utd turned his head but if Ipswich go down with a whimper he will have far less options...
Assuming Welbeck is out for a while (I really hope not) it could be just what Ferguson needs. He looked way off it today but it must be hard only starting occasionally and knowing you are most likely going to be subbed. He was the obvious choice to come off for Mitoma.
Hopefully he can find a...
A truly fantastic result as evidenced by how long it’s been since they lost at home.
Very resilient performance. Good to see Ferdi more involved today. I really hope Welbeck isn’t out for too long but if not Ferguson needs to take the chance, he looked off it today.
Really pleased to see...
I think this is a near perfect list. The only swap I would make is I would have the Maupay last gasp winner 2-1 Arsenal win rather than the first season won. Just for the sheer drama and importance of that win.
Thats genuinely interesting on the XG. My opinion on the manager went up significantly after the second half . That might sound obvious but it wasnt just the Estupinan change it was the pressing with much more intensity from forward positions that stopped us being played through and behind. If...
This where football is so interesting, we watched the same game but saw it totally differently. I thought we were totally outplayed first half. Spurs had a goal disallowed for a narrow offside, missed a glorious chance inside a minute and had Brennan Johnson clean through for a third just...
That sounds extremely unpleasant. I think he’s been really impressive this season and yet I fear when everyone is fit he will struggle to make the match day squad. That seems unfair given his level of contribution but is a reflection of the new squad depth. There will be others who equally...
The thing I love about him is he scores proper six yard box tap ins. This season the goals against Man United and yesterday and last season v Chelsea being prime examples. It’s great he scores all sorts of other goals too but we have really missed that presence in the six yard box since Murray...
