[Food] Best supermarkets/places to buy groceries in the area

Bread always amazes me. Even loaves from the local baker last longer than mine from the bread machine. Let alone from the supermarket.

[Food] Best supermarkets/places to buy groceries in the area

interesting, my friend who is a dairy farmer has nothing but praise for Tesco in their dealings. They’re a massive organisation so it’s likely different people have different experiences.

Green Army. Whatever your thoughts on the merits of Rooney as manager his presence demands attention. It must be knackering.

[Football] The Non-League Football Thread- 2024/25 Edition

A good win for the Barrowmen at home to Hythe Town in the Isthmian South East. It was probably a good time to play them as they have had recent turmoil on the pitch and arrived with young, quick, slight players. In the first half The Cannons looked very good and a recent loanee from Maidstone...

[Misc] Longest standing pursuit / hobby

It’s uplifting reading what brings different people joy. I’m going to add sea swimming. Although only in the last couple of years has it been all year round.

[Drinking] is it time to retire the pint?

I do drink halves sometimes when out for what would have been a few years ago “a few pints”. But that’s simply age. If we got rid of the pint I suppose there’s also no halves. Half of what?

Interesting thread. I’ve had lots of interests over the years, but lifelong would have to be the beautiful game, and books.

Yep, the Old Star is great. Recommended. They just create an easy, welcoming atmosphere and always a decent pint (and it always is a pint).

All this Two Tier nonsense. It’s so dull when people just parrot whatever is their latest party line.

[Politics] The 2024 US Election - *MATCH DAY*

I read an interesting piece about Trump supporters who know his personality but they are unconcerned as their big picture is that the US is failing (for them at least) and he is one person who shares that view. I was chatting with a friend the other day and he felt as a white, middle-aged...

[Humour] Poem du Jour (under 60s don’t bother reading it  )

Smokers for Celibacy - Fleur Adcock Some of us are a little tired of hearing that cigarettes kill. We'd like to warn you about another way of making yourself ill: we suggest that in view of AIDS, herpes, chlamydia, cystitis and NSU, not to mention genital warts and cervical cancer and the...

    [Drinking] Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s Fridat!

Couple of pints of Harvey’s in the rebranded White Horses (formerly without the plural) in Rotters. I was going to say no longer Greene King (hurrah) but just checked and it is - but part of their hotel chain (boo). Food very good btw.

[Misc] Books you gave up on

Under Milk Wood is meant to be listened to. It’s for voices. I started reading it but it only came alive listening to that Richard Burton version. Who couldn’t love Morgan the Organ and his liking for Johann Sebastian Bach. Every time.

I have considered Proust but I’m just not sure I’ve got it in me. I did have the most delicious madeleine earlier in the summer in south east France that gave me encouragement.
