I was there a couple of weeks ago for the Liverpool game, and thought it pretty good. I didn’t eat any food. My seat was fine. Not padded but not tiny either.
I’ve deliberately not yet read the other responses. For me, without any doubt, Anfield is the best experience available to the travelling football fan. Mind you, I’m a traditionalist and enjoy the atmosphere and setting of a stadium, the local pubs, the friendliness of the town, the general...
No, that’s not what I said.
I said that when you’re considering major career choices, part of the decision is how might this affect my lifestyle? Are you prepared to accept the sacrifices in exchange for the benefits?
I lived in the city for several years and it was the obvious example for me BUT it’s actually not a great one to choose as the Zurich spelling has become the standard English version outside the region, and you see it in international company names like Zurich Insurance. My bad. The principle...
Is it not possible that when you’re weighing up the pros and cons of entering politics and thinking of having a crack at being PM, you take into account that you’ll no longer be able to ‘go down the Arsenal’ as he likes to say in blokey podcasts, or go to the pub with your mates on a Friday...
As far as I know, you can replace any Umlaut vowel (a,o,u) with the vowel plus an 'e'. It’s often needed when for some technical reason the Umlaut isn’t available. For instance Zürich = Zuerich.
With people’s names eg Hürzeler, always use the Umlaut or spell it Huerzeler. Spelling it Hurzeler...
I’m not bothered about the politics or the history of the Commonwealth Games. I just quite enjoy the actual sport — and I suspect the athletes do too, treating it as a valuable stepping stone in their careers, and an opportunity to compete at a very high level, albeit with probably an even...
I’m not as cynical as that. If all the food is sold out midway through the game it shows that there’s a market for it, and is an incentive for the club to offer more food and a wider range. I’d be surprised if they weren’t working on this.
Regarding transport the club is powerless so instead...
Apart from the one howler at the end, Steele had a really good game. He was assertive and positive, constantly grabbing the ball at someone’s feet or in mid-air. And a great stop in the first half from I think, Lima. One of his best IMO. Just a shame about the single brain fart.
I thought it was a good, entertaining game. Both teams had good and bad spells. A couple of cracking goals, a comedy goalkeeping error, Ferdi's first, tension all the way through, I thought it decent. And we won.
I don’t have a problem with Wembley chants at cup games. They’re often tongue in cheek. All clubs' fans used to sing "We’re gonna win the cup… and now you’re gonna believe us" (etc). after every goal. Maybe some still do. When a mid table EFL side looks like winning 2 games in a row they sing...
Confession -- in the football fan universe, few things give me as much pleasure as being highly thought of by other fans. I occasionally look at other fan forums, especially in advance of a match, and I love to see them saying positive things about us as a club and as a set of fans. I know, I...
Positives? Being able to get a good WiFi signal all evening, being able to get a pie pre-game without queuing, the Seagull Travel bus getting away straight after the game instead of sitting motionless in a 40 minute engine-revving festival.
Thing is, I feel the opposite in any case. I always appreciate that away fans have made the effort to get down here, especially on a weekday evening with shite public transport. Anyone who goes to a fair few away games will understand. It will never happen but I’d rather we acknowledged them...
