    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

800 miles seems a long border for a peace keeping force, doesn't it. Even longer if it winds through Kursk ,! I just checked: US - Mexico border is 2000 miles. No problem then😉.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yes, I'd read that the US is pumping more than ever 👍.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

It's very interesting that they had a call, and also that Merz asked that question! I read or heard somewhere (just this morning...now don't go asking me questions like "where?" ,😉) that many/ all of longer range missiles that Ukraine has (does this include Storm Shadow?? no idea) contain...

    [Politics] Is democracy in crisis?

And the autocrats (current guys) will do nothing to help that.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Exactly, I knew the answer to my question. So, would the west like to continue sanctions and continue helping Ukraine hold the current position militarily, plus or minus, for the next two years (IMF estimate IIRC), until Russia implodes? If not, why not?

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Well yes, that would be nice. Sorry , qI wasn't clear enough, I didn't mean economic chaos for the 'west'... I meant fear of what would happen politically in Russia. There must be a lot of division. What are the chances of various factions fighting for power, what happens to nuclear weapons...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yes, it was a good watch. It's a reminder that, although Trump seems a touch too pally with Putin, and Poots will flatter Trump's ego, Trump is mainly about (himself first, and then) putting the US first, so it shouldn't bother him if pumping more US oil damages Russia...could be a silver lining...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

I may be closer to the effects of the war, but I'm not necessarily closer to the analysis and pulse of what is/ might happen 😉. All possibilities (from anyone) are very welcome IMO 👍. I would LOVE the economic collapse of Russia - it's just that I'm coming to feel the 'west' don't necessarily...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yes, if the gloves were off, Russia wouldn't last long against Europe. (Lots of Slovaks hate Russians ...but they elected a leader who seems to like Putin,🤷🏼‍♂️).

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Sorry. I'd love to be more positive but the US election was a hard earned lesson . And when I read Osborne's statement,,,I mean, if that's typical within our 'elite' then blimey, we're gonna roll over.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Hmmm...couple of things from me after a quick skim (will read fully later): - US would pump Ukraine full of weapons for defense....really? - George Osborne (who tf is he??) said it's impossible for Europe to fend off Russian aggression without US support. Well, that's rubbish, or it should be...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yes, the time gap is critical. If Ukraine can hold in there than anything is possible to collapse in Russia. But do western leaders actually want that 🤷‍♂️. Putin will keep bluffing that Russia's economy is fine, it's what he does - are western leaders really smart enough to know the true...

Russia relentlessly attacking Ukrainian citizens and infrastructure. Where's those promised air defense systems, allies?

[Politics] The 2024 US Election - *MATCH DAY*

Indeed, secondary effects from simple policies will be there, some are obvious really, others are hidden for now. Eg Tariffs on imported goods from China could essentially be paid for by...US citizens. Ok, China may lose some business, and US manufacturers/ importers may lose some profit margin...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yes, indeed, the whole piece is so strong and I hope a lot of people on this thread can find the 5 or 10 minutes to read it. I'm thinking that it's a shame he isn't a leader in one of the large European/NATO countries, in the key meetings, influencing strategy fully.
