The hypocrisy of privileged millionaire Tory Ministers sneering at their critics for being rich is staggering. Although not quite as nauseating as 'advising' the poor how to live on low wages or welfare benefits by shopping and eating more frugally.
My tongue was very firmly lodged in my cheek - I was parodying the kind of snobbish anti-academic comments Tories spew-out when denigrating degrees which they disapprove of when what they really mean is how dare we offer degrees that students from working-class or other 'non-traditional' social...
Cue Gammons shouting: "Told you. They're all fukkin' corrupt self-serving chancers. That's why Reform and Nigel Farage are getting my vote; they're the only honest politicians we've got." :shootself
One of my favourite political quotes is from the Italian political theorist, Antonio Gramsci, who was imprisoned under Mussolini:
"The old is dying, but the new cannot yet be born. In the interregnum, a variety of morbid symptoms appear."
I think that this is exactly where we are currently.
I sadly fear that a lot of our fellow citizens don't use their brains properly; they respond in a knee-jerk manner to manipulative MSM headlines and scaremongering at a purely emotional level. It's about "my feelings", reinforcing prejudices, and what they want to believe "cos I read it in The...
Same here.
In Bath, only the Liberal Democrats can beat the Conservatives; Labour are always a long-way behind in third place.
However, I don't resent having to vote Lib Dem, although if we had PR, I'd probably vote Green.
Not only is our local Lib Dem MP (Wera Hobhouse) excellent, I also...
What always strikes me is that whenever ordinary British workers are stitched-up like this by corrupt or grossly incompetent bosses, our self-proclaimed patriots are silent.
I don't recall hearing any criticism of Paula Venells, or words of support for the wronged sub-postmasters, from 'man of...
So which of your Human Rights do you want to surrender?
Also, perhaps look at the regimes where all human rights are suppressed; are they the type of societies you want Britain to become?
Or are you just triggered by the work 'European' in ECHR?
I do find many Tory voters bizarre - they'll say they can't possibly vote Labour because they remember the chaos of the 1970s (er, 50 years ago!), but they don't seem to remember the chaos and incompetence of the last 5 years.
I think a lot of Tory voters suffer from selective amnesia.
Problem is, a lot of his Gammony followers and worshippers can't forget, because they don't really know what he stands for in the first place; they just hear him being derogatory about people with darker skin, and claim that "Our Nige says it like it is." He give them permission to 'punch down'...
