Lucky you! I think the number of legit bootlegs of gigs gives a flavour, but my one experience was singular from well before the Dead started playing. Definitely missed.

I agree with you in a sense, in reality that is how most of us behave. But it isn't a good practice as the boundary is subjective and it's interpretation leaves it open to abuse. Would we apply this thinking in domestic violence or child abuse? You and I might have very different ideas about...

Ahhh, do you mean that the CGT is charged at a lower rate than income tax? In which case I now see. Do you mean tax the whole lot as income and if under pension age charge NI? In which case that seems fair. I'd still disagree with your first example.

Thank you, that's clearer, it's a hypothetical case not a real case. So they lived on nothing beforehand and didn't work? That must be about five people. Presumably some IHT payed as well then on the inheritance. And what is wrong with the real example if they have no other income? presumably...

Yes, of course. I wonder why it would be that it's increased if you have no other income. There must be a reason for that, what could it be?

Personal savings allowance is £1000 for basic rate. It would take a lot of savings to get that much interest from ISAs, ~25 years. In a way this misses the point, it is interest not income in this example. If you have £20K savings you might get £1K interest, at what point does this become...

You'd also need £464250 in savings. Maybe those savings in NS&I income bonds (4%), providing government borrowing. You wouldn't get any benefits either whereas your employed person would. The capital would also reduce with inflation. I hope Starmer is more honest than you want him to be.

I think they would be paying tax on £1000 above their tax code so ~£1200

Maybe if some of the nations concerned got a better deal in world trade this might not come up as an issue. When I was a student I was friends with someone from Malawi who was studying something like forrestry. Most of the wood used in baseball bats (or something like that) at that time came...

That's a great summary. Where to make the investments now in a very different world without undoing the good things is the difficult part? I hope it's not another few miles of HS2, we may know more next week. It also reads close to the 2019 manifesto and some definitely didn't like that. I don't...
