In all honesty, having read the whole statement from Varane I didn't come across to me that the injury was the reason for his retirement.
"I have fallen and risen a thousand times, and this time, it's the moment to stop and hang my boots up with my final game winning a trophy at Wembley,"
If...
I don't think it's sad news, I think it's great news. It takes a brave footballer to retire at 31, especially one with his CV. His legacy was starting to diminish I feel, and he can leave Man United with last year's FA Cup and not trawl through the "minor leagues" as his powers continue to...
It's always amazing to me how quickly the question stops being "Why did this monster do these awful things?" to "Why didn't the victim just DO something?"...
Not really one to sing along to though is it? Although remembering the lyrics may be less of a challenge...

Speaking as a sometime Guardian reader, I cannot disagree vociferously enough. The article is TOTAL garbage. But I'm a 40-something-year-old man, so probably not the target audience anyway
You'd hope this time without a club may have given him some time to re-evaluate his approach. The stories swirling around him such that it was tough to distinguish between the true and the false, but whatever the truth his career has slowed to a stop and a period of reflection may be the best...
It's a "best solution" not a "perfect solution". Case in point was when Forest broke yesterday and it looked to me like both players were miles off, lino didn't flag and Forest then won a corner. There's no recourse for moments like that.
Unless, of course, he just wasn't offside and I'm blind...
What, this guy?
"Monday’s edition of Diario de Sevilla says the Brighton owned player and Pedrosa haven’t been convincing yet.
Pedrosa has made five league appearances, while the Argentina U21 international has been limited to only one start for Sevilla. They have one win from six league games...
I couldn't hear any Brighton chants over the Forest fans on account of them taking up the entire South stand and my seat being fairly close in WSL.
What I will say, is that noise carries so poorly in the Amex, It's horribly sound inefficient. I'm sure the NSK are relentlessly singing and...
As @Marshy said, the high line is here to stay.
You "fix" the high line buy bringing in pace, which is why we were after that CB in the summer from PSV. As much as I love Dunk, his pace is gone and for all JPVH's many strengths, he's neither slow nor particularly fast...
I think the point that most people miss is that Forest are excellent away from home. They've won their last four and tactically set up really well today.
Yes, we should have won, and, yes, were were caught on the break, but to me it was a case of two fairly well matched teams neutralising each...
You're using words like "very minor injury" and "unfit" for a start. We as fans have no idea how serious injuries are. Using our understanding of said injuries to decide when they're likely to be back is always guesswork.
On your first point, what do wages have to do with it? I don't think...
What you gain with Veltman in defensive stability, you lose in attacking support for Minteh. People are doubling up on him and we're missing the pacey overlap
I actually thought he looked pretty good, albeit with a couple of shakier moments. Overall, a solid debut with room for improvement, which is what I'd expect for him (and any other new player coming in).
What did stand out is just how right footed he is for a left back. Amazingly so, in fact.
Verbruggen 7 - Didn't have much to do, but distribution was good
Veltman 7 - Solid as usual, got forward well
JPHV 8 - Now head and shoulders clear as our best CB
Dunk 6 - Indifferent and bad at free kicks
Hinshelwood 7 - Looked good until the yellow
Baleba 8 - All action
Ayari 8 - Looking...
Thought he looked good. Strong on the ball, quick and has an eye for a pass. Given Mitoma and Minteh were total passengers and made the wrong decision time and again, I can't quite understand why he's getting a lot of flack.
Behind JP, Baleba and Ayari (maybe Hinsh) in the MotM stakes, but at...
Just to clarify, was the job "Brexit"? If so he's got that job done in a kinda "get Burnley in the PL" way. Smashed through obstacles to the high level goal and made a stack-load of money, but was totally ill-equipped to make it stick long term, then buggered off to a better paid job elsewhere?
