As @Gwylan says, Oor Wullie and The Broons were DC Thomson annuals that came out on alternate years. No idea why. They were never comics in their own right tho, they were comic strips in the Fun Section - such as it was - of that most Scottish of institutions The Sunday Post

Maybe I'm doing the clhb a disservice here, but my gut feeling is the club did owe a far greater duty of care to Aaron, maybe a Tough Love mentor or something. Seems to have been allowed to go off the rails unchallenged earlydoors. Never seemed a bad lad. Bit of a tragedy really
