I don't understand this? Thanking players for what they have done? We signed them and gave them the platform and paid them handsomely. That's the thanks isn't it? It's their job to perform well. It's not like we are making them go above and beyond and not paying them well and need to thank them...

That is why I would be amazed if a few can be agreed to. Gross is worth tens of millions. Probably 30-50.
They are rare edge cases. What percentage of EPL transfers did they make up? It is a tiny fraction of transfers that are of their like. It is absolute fiction and nonsense to suggest they are not rarities.
You are cherry picking rarities there. Generally for an experience player with EPL or equivalent experience you will be paying £50 m and that is before you factor in wages. Look at how much Pedro cost - almost 30 m and he has zero EPL experience.
Yes, there will always be the rare Gross and...
The trouble is that 2-3 experienced players will cost way more than £60-80m. Unless you sign free agents like Wellbeck, Lallana and Milner. But then you would complain they don't play enough and are injured.
The England team's DNA, as an outsider, seems to be to have good individuals but with a poor team technical and tactical cohesion. They just play, and rarely look like they have a plan. You could say it is to pick the best 11 individuals but not necessarily the best team.
This, I think anyway...
