What's I'd like is all the bank holidays moved to Fridays. Monday is a crap day to have off - it just launches you straight into Tuesday morning. Much better to start the weekend on Thursday evening.

They promised things that appealed to both sides, of course, but in the final days Starmer was saying “we’ll won’t rejoin the EU in my lifetime” and similar things designed to reassure voters in non-city-centre constituencies - not to fire up his core voters.

UK politics are about bringing a coalition together, usually within the same party. This election it was noticeable that the Labour Party did their best to appeal to the more right of centre voters, not those on the left.
