It was extremely political and bumptious — unless we’re using different thesauruses. And partisan. Gimmicky? Mmm, no, not really. Fair enough. Though I’d add in snide to balance that one out. Not sure what flashy means here so we can leave that one on account.
Chancellors always deliver triumphal, tub-thumping budget speeches that make us feel great about most things. Even Tory budgets FFS.
But then, over the following day or so it always starts to unravel a bit, doesn’t it? So perhaps let’s wait and see what the fallout is. Even watching Paul...
No mention of Football Clichés? Probably my favourite listen of the week (twice a week, in fact).
Guardian Football Weekly
Totally Football Show
The Times football pod (The Game)
Most other football pods I find pretty tedious.
Non-football include
The Rest is History
Spectator Coffee House...
I quite like being in a corner. I was in the corner between NS and WS for the Chelsea 4-1 game. I liked the view. Sort of a bit-of-both vibe (for Football Clichés listeners).
I'd be amazed if if did happen, unless he’s charged with GBH and/or the judge decides that him being an MP is an aggravating factor that deserves an exemplary sentence.
There are procedures to go through to get rid of an MP. If 10,000 constituents sign a recall petition there can be another election held. I think if the MP is found guilty of a crime punishable by prison (not that they have to actually be sentenced to prison) they can also lose their seat...
Yes, we all have triggers, and a minority of irrational people will even lose control and resort to physical violence. But people like that should not be in parliament passing legislation and (no doubt) pontificating on the bad behaviour of others.
I'm trying to think of anything that someone might say to me in the street, that would result in me punching them like that, and continue to punch and kick them when they were on the ground. Anything at all? Nope. Add in the clear fact that the MP was not in any physical danger, and he doesn’t...
I'm one of those weirdos who feels no great hostility towards Palace. The Mullery-Venables thing is utter nonsense, and not worthy of a 50 year feud. Palace did us a favour by beating Tottenham.
Me too. Even (or especially) when going to the supermarket I have to have a podcast on the go. I never listen to music, and haven’t done for years. Has to be the spoken word, usually podcasts on football or politics, occasionally book reviews.
When going to sleep I also need to listen to...
This is a very interesting article from the Economist, for anyone who still thinks the benefits of this new class of drugs are being overstated.

The impact of these jabs is incredibly far-reaching, from emotional/ADHD benefits to treating alcohol and drug addiction...
Exactly. When I started this thread I resolved not to bore the pants off people explaining why preachy instructions like 'all you have to do is eat less and exercise more', 'all you have to do is use more self control', 'all you have to do is follow a keto diet' [ad nauseam] are of no use to me...
Hmm. A number of my relatives died in the Irish potato famine in the mid-19th century, largely due to the uncaring attitude of the British government. Surely that must be worth a few quid to me?
