I said exactly the same about Beryl bikes in a different thread recently. Include them in the travel scheme and have docking stations at the Amex and the station in addition to the existing ones on the Uni campuses.

Actually used one of those bikes from Stanmer park to the Old Steine recently and the journey took less than 20 minutes. Electric bike and it is ever so slightly downhill the whole way along Lewes Road.

Fair point about the illegally parked cars. That section, where there's a parade of shops, opposite Saunders Park, every time i've cycled down there i've had to go into the bus lane, because a delivery driver has flicked their hazards on and double parked in the cycle lane

They're usually parked by people going to the chemists there. Don't think I've cycled through there without someone double parked there.

There appeared to be some bike racks in the bus/coach car park on saturday that i'd never noticed before, and were pretty empty when arriving at 2pm. Also right near the security/stewards station, so you'd imagine putting your bike there would be safe.
Oh, whereabouts are they? There has long been some bike parking space right at the edge of the car park near the top entrance, but it's those terrible racks that are only ever installed by people who don't cycle, which don't enable you to lock your frame to the rack because they are so low.

That is a HUGE increase in capacity for bike parking.

The little shelter before you get to the station from the Bridge is a surprise - but I wouldn't want to leave my bike there, seems ripe for cycle theft, being on its own away from the hubbub of the ground.

The club should be shouting from the rooftops about this. A large increase in those cycling to the ground will take pressure off other transport choices and be an improvement for everyone.

I know locks can be heavy and good ones are expensive but I use litelock x1 for my motorcycles and they are pretty much angle grinder proof. They do one for bicycles as well, they are not cheap at £150 but if you don’t want your bike nicked it could be a good investment.

if I have to leave my motorcycle for any length of time I will used at least two types of locks. If it needs this to defeat the thieving scum I will do it.

Ha! I met you in that Irish bar near the Grasshopper then. I remember Jack telling me you’d cycled to the game which blew my mind at the time, but reading that makes it feel like the easy and Dutch thing to do.

Wet though.

I think @Weststander uses a Litelok … think I’ll look into one for myself with the aim of cycling to as many games as possible from Shoreham next season. I currently have a Seagull Travel season ticket but might use the money I’ll have to buy a decent lock and new lights.

If I lived in range I'd buy the shittiest looking second hand bike I could find and use it for games.
This is what i have done today, I went to the bike hub just off Lewes Rd, Got an old hard tail trek for £110, I'll use locks but tbh it looks like it's worth nothing so won't get stolen for resale, They sell abandoned bikes etc, these have a sort of service and a quick check over before being sold with any damaged or faulty parts replaced or fixed.

Hi, yes two Litelok X1’s and a highly rated cable.

Things evolve … the Litelok X3 and OnGuard 8590 are even better at defeating angle grinders. But would a scumbag try that at the Amex on a matchday?

At least you won’t have any hills .
