The others listed have all been in shockers - Seymour Hoffman made every film he was in better, but he only had so much power to turn tripe to classic. Cazale didn't have that same domineering potency, but his anxious glare still sticks with me from Dog Day.

Only made 5 movies but yes as you say all Oscar nominated. Dog day afternoon for me his best, Godfather 2 and the conversation with another great Gene Hackman were both up for best film in the same year. It's sad to think when you think about the corleone family most people can name them and who played then except Fredo
