[Albion] This is, by some margin, the strongest ever Brighton squad of all time

If Kadioglu could get and stay fit, this would change things, but currently it feels like we are constantly a BIT thin across the back, and just one more injury from defensive BARE BONES (c) Harry Redknapp

I'd say that this squad is certainly the strongest we've had in terms of depth. Our bench has been ridiculous in recent weeks compared with the opposition - Bournemouth and Chelsea both had kids there while we have had established first-teamers. So our prospects over the rest of the season and late in games should be as good as they have ever been.

Is our best eleven as good as 2022-3? Without Gross, Caicedo and Ally Mac, I'd say not. Dunk isn't quite the player he was, Ferguson even less so, and Colwill was a big plus. But Georginio, Baleba and Hinsh are making up for the ones we've lost somewhat.

On paper, it would absolutely wipe the floor with the 22/23 squad.

The 22/23 squad had an exceptional midfield with Gross, Caicedo and Mac Allister - but Baleba and Hinsh are well on their way to becoming as good as these, with Gomez looking like he might be the real deal too.

Would say the defence is marginally weaker than in the 23/24 squad - very similar - except Colwill was crucial in that season.

...but our attack is considerably better in all positions, including the quality that we have on the bench.

So why isn't the club doing quite as well as the 22/23 squad (yet)?

The 22/23 squad was really the squad that Potter spent years building - with RDZ for adding his unique touch to take us to our highest ever finish.

Hurzeler is doing a great job - I love how adaptable he is, and we do seem to be constantly improving. He had to pick up the pieces from an RDZ squad no longer on a high, and quickly bring in lots of young new faces into the team - and our recent form proves he has done this expertly.

I don't want to tempt fate - but if we continue doing what we're doing, with a bit of luck, the achievements this season could exceed our greatest ever in 22/23, as this BHAFC squad truly is a real force in football.
I agree it is the strongest squad.
In particular, recently, every substitute is starter-quality.
Bosh.

And you did not ask whatabout if we had Mac Alister still (etc.).
So the whatabout 'that bloke' replies are a bit duff.

You have started two threads recently that have my wholehearted and enthusiastic support.
Have you started to take some new drugs?
Can I have some?

I think the poster is playing some sort of 'back in my day' card, ignoring the fact that squads didn't existing until, what, the 90s?
Back in my day, you couldn't get a sub on unless a player not only had his leg broken,
but also gnawed off by dogs and spirited away by vicious seagulls.
Fact.

Yep. Had a much better midfield under Potter's last full season and the split one with RDZ but a far weaker attack than today. Defensively, unfortunately we've not quite replaced Snake Cucurella on the left and Dunk was far better back then than he is now. I prefer Bart to Sanchez in goal, others won't.

Slightly odd wording in the OP too. Our coaches don't build the squads, the recruitment team buy and build for the coach to develop.
I think Bart is better than Sanchez.
The Cucurella versus Pervis is an interesting one though, Cucurella was great in that first season, as was Pervis in his.

Caicedo and MacAllister though, did we really see them play together?
Still can’t believe it. Just amazing……

Still love the 3-0 at Arsenal…..

I agree on the back line… Dunk was an anchor and Levi was up and coming… but, this year- we have the depth up front to loan talent like Enciso, Buonanotte, and Ferguson- and still have quality players such as Adingra, and O’Riley searching for playing time… THAT makes this squad special.

This season we have real strength in depth. On that basis, I believe this is the strongest squad we’ve had.

I’ve not seen a regular bench as good as this. We used to cry how another team’s bench is more than our whole squad… now it’s our subs!!

We had a lad at The Albion called Tobe who figured in the program but never got a game…
That was a brilliant joke back in 1972
