I was on the London underground yesterday and with tourists standing on the wrong side of the escalator, all I was thinking of was “Go left, go left, go left right left…”

I keep keep singing “Life is the name of the game and I want to play that game with you’
Why though ?
Because you are Bruce Forsyth (RIP) and I claim my £5.

Earworms are strange things. I have woken up with songs in my head I've long forgotten. I'd love to know the psychology behind it.

I get a lot of random earworms & a lot of them are annoying.
When I saw the thread title before clicking it, this instantly entered my head (yes I'm weird). I'm sorry.

I don’t know about songs long forgotten but I recently realised that I would have songs in my head that I knew but hadn’t heard for a while … until I’d heard them on the radio at work the day before - which developed into me thinking that the song I’d start singing half way home was the song that was on last before I left work …. Hard to prove because I never seemed to be consciously listening to radio just background and I could never seem to be thinking about it at the right time to discover if it was having an effect. All very vague I know. But I think adverts carry old tunes as well and I never actually take any notice of them but they are the songs in my head later

At the moment I love all the reels of football chants so I am randomly bursting out with things like - you get a free season ticket in a happy meal (Newcastle about Sunderland) or we got him for free/ he won all three (Liverpool Gary Macca … which painfully has the best version recorded on the concourse at the Amex)

However it was the all the leaves are brown (above) that got me to remember that I’d heard it on the radio the day before when it entered my head … but if you’d asked me what songs were on the radio yesterday I wouldn’t have had a clue. Interesting how the mind works with background noise you’re not focusing on

Sometimes when I'm doing something or have read something, my brain plays a song in my head that it connects to the situation without prompt. So I get that, although it is evidence of a disconnect between the brain and conscious thought.

But the early morning ones, songs from the distant past I have neither played nor heard, that is one I've tried to work out and can't. I often go and look up the lyrics of the songs to understand the sub conscious workings behind them but rarely make a connection. It's obviously a random part of my memory that has opened up before my consciousness has woken.

Now the World don't move to the beat of just one drum.
What might be right for you may not be right for some.
