Yes, one with bags of experience of playing against Harland or Isak or Watkins!!
We had already lost Igor before Cashin was signed, Dunk is clearly not fit, Veltman who can play CB is also out. That leaves two fit PL- ready centre halves, one of whom has an appalling injury record. I am just saying it is feasible we end up with Weiffer or Beleba playing emergency CB before the season is out, and I am not sure how well that will turn out.
We might - let’s hope not- but think this a bit harsh on Cashin who is clearly thought of as ready to step in if needed. His Championship experience /age is pretty similar to JPVH when he rejoined us from Blackburn a couple of years ago.

Looking back now - I'm not sure it was such a big turning point. We have obviously responded fantastically, with four wins in a row. But looking at the form table for the last seven PL games (putting the Forest game right in the middle) - it's more indicative of the Forest match being a blip in a decent run where we were picking up anyway?

What's going on with Palace's away form?

I agree. Everyone was talking about the Forest game like it was the culmination of something that had coming a while. The results prior suggested different, more a blip against a superb side.

I also hope Cashin is ready to make the step up, but suspect he will take time to adjust to the Premier League. And for me a slight red flag is that he hasn't yet made the Ireland squad, and they are crying out for a decent defence (see their last game against England)

But the main point I was making is if Webby pulls up lame in the next game or two (unfortunately quite possible) AND JPVH mistimes one of his last ditched tackles then we have Cashin and one non-defender (e.g Weiffer) playing centre half against Man City and Villa, and it could be carnage.

Obviously this is worst case scenario, and hope that Dunk and Veltman are back soon.

Dunk looks like he’s close but Newcastle is too soon. Veltman is a “couple of weeks”.

I think Dunk has clearly been struggling most of the season with various knocks and injuries and that has affected his form
I think Dunks injuries are a result of his inclusion in the England Squad for the Euros. He (IIRC) had been playing with a minor injury, went to the Euros and then basically straight back into the season with us. He thern played all season and was playing heavilly strapped up throughout the later part of the season. He didnt get any off time to recover properly , and this season the injuries are mounting up

Players at the top get virtually no time off these days, and it wouldn't surprise me if the massive injury lists from a lot of clubs are a result of this.

Utd have said they are going to a post season tour immediately after the season and a pre season tour, with Nations league games as well, when are players meant to simply rest and recuperate

Pipping Newcastle in extra time in a hard fought FA Cup tie has to give them so much confidence.

Just need to look at the next game now.

Did I hear on the commentary for today's FA cup game that Fab came into training on the monday following, pulled out his preparation notes, and set light to them in front of all the players ?

Someone tell me that I'm not going senile at an even faster rate than I thought ???

The only goals we've let in since then in five whole (and a bit) games, have been
  1. A brainfart from Bart
  2. A worldie
  3. A penalty
If you look at goals conceded in the ten games in 2025, when excluding the Forest debacle…

1. Open play goal (Arsenal)
2. Penalty (Man Utd)
3. Penalty (Everton)
4. Brain fart (Chelsea)
5. Worldie (Bournemouth)
6. Penalty (Newcastle)

Very encouraging!
