Carlton are a good team to follow i think. Still joint top of the table of all-time flag winners, despite being mostly dreadful for the last thirty years, they're like Richmond in that they're a meme when they're crap, but as soon as they turn the page and start improving, they'll become a juggernaut that'll win three flags in half a decade. When it turns, it turns big. Plus their kit, and theme song, are top tier.

Im alright with Carlton, despite their sickening habit of absolutely robbing Freo in matches :p

First match of the season is 6 march, thats a shade over six weeks away! turning my interest from NFL to AFL is an important part of the calendar - cant wait til those early mornings with a dirty chai, watching Freo on the sofa at 5.30. Love it!
Not at all sure about that, but certainly worth following the story of the Carlton president and his 'hacked' social media account :lolol:

I like the fact that the players are very accessible.

Here is a video of me sticking one past Cameron Ling (3X Premiership player for Geelong).

probably the second worst thing in my life is this bollocks coming back to dominate the media in this god forsaken hell hole of a country , the first most worst thing is I'm about to loose 12 years worth of music from Farcebook.... I hate my life right now

sorry , I'm over the game , I'll watch the swans now and then but the media saturation here is woeful.
From this side of the hemisphere, it's all part of the arcane charm, along with the daft 1950's style anthems, the general accessibilty, the admirable Welcome To Country stuff and the head-mental levels of in-play advertising. Tho above all, it's a great watch

Well - this is timely. Im off to visit my son in Melbourne in just over a week's time. Ive never been to Straya, (Ive been to NZ but we skipped Oz at the time) - so looking forward to it.
As Im originally a Geordie, and my mother's family name was Collingwood, I lazily "picked" Collingwood a few decades back as "my team" (despite not having a clue about the game, cant name a single player, coach, famous moment , nor any famous matches - hell, I dont really understand the rules either, but still).
So, in a couple of weeks, we are apparently going to see Collingwood play somebody or other at the MCG! Im quite excited about it, and probably should brush up on the rules , but .... any tips? (Apart from "choose a different team" that is - I frankly dont care deeply enough about them either way for that to matter).
It's going to be a Cultural Experience. :)

Watch as many game highlights on YT etc before you go, so you can at least follow whats going on. Really doesn't take long to pick up the basic rules / scoring system at all. And...enjoy & embrace Australia - we had the most amazing time out there in January!

Consign this shouty phrase to memory: 'Carna Pies!'

Oh and be sure to take the train to Brighton Beach. It's nothing like our Brighton Beach. For a start it's got sand 😄

Try not to mention you have chosen Collingwood in polite society. If you wish to fit in witb your chosen new family here are a few suggestions:

- Drink plenty if Bundy, as its special occasion maybe a can of jim beam and coke or two.
- Knock out a few teeth, you could just use black marker to get the effect but it doesn't give thr correct vocal tone when mixed with the Bundy.
- Have some prepared stories about centrelink (dole), sex with a family member and fighting at the pub while on ice. ideally all at once.

here is one from the posher end of their support (btw don't go to Moe)

Youll have a ball, enjoy the game and your fellow supporters 😂😂

To be honest, it ain’t gonna have a lot of culture.

Collingwood are a bit like Burnley FC. Working class and famously averse to dentists, about as ‘Bogan’(chav) as it can get! Seriously though, have a great trip.
