Bonjour pedaleurs du NSC.
I'm planning a 4-night cycling jaunt around Aquitaine, flying in and out of Bordeaux in September. Does anyone have any recommendations for particularly good routes or spots? Currently thinking about following the Dordogne, towards Sarlat kind of way, visiting a couple of chateau vineyards and generally meandering - but any ideas welcome. Merci

Probably of no interest to anyone but me....but, I started collecting baseball cards etc a while ago, and every now and again check on eBay to see whats new.
Found these last night - an entire set of 74 Topps cards from the 1988 cycling season. Only £8, so had to nab them - especially as other sellers are putting up individual cards at over £4 each. Definitely some names on these that had been long forgotten! Look forward to going through the whole set, reviving childhood memories, and displaying them properly.

I wish I did, but not been down that way since I was about 10. Sounds great though! 🙂 Which reminds me.....this started in Bordeaux last week ⬇️

Dont know if anyone else caught it last week, but this new series started on More4, (Mondays at 9pm). Hugh Dennis and David Baddiel spending a couple of weeks meandering across the South of France by bike. More about the scenery & history than it is the riding - but its gentle, easy going silliness. My kind of riding these days tbh.

I’m not that thick LOL. I used to go by that then read online the thinking is to go substantially below.
Apologies but I probably bodged what I meant to say. If you lower pressure the ride becomes more anaerobic. If I had not been careful I would have ended up with even worse beefcake legs.

Thanks, that's something new to know, I'll stick to higher pressures then. Other than cycling to Amex games, I do it for CV exercise.

I've only ever really done this route which is quite enjoyable, my in-laws live in Duras so it's a convenient one for me once a year. https://www.freewheelingfrance.com/...es-et-vergers-en-duraquois-cycling-duras.html Really well signposted circular route, although there is only 1 place on the route to buy any food or drink and you have to time it perfectly for when it's open and they are still taking orders (we just missed it last time and had to make do with a coffee and a couple of biscuits!)

A few more ideas of stuff in the area on that website as well

Morning Geeks. Im not normally one for doing this - but I have taken up the Cancer Research "200 Miles in March" Challenge.

In September 2023 my mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, and given 6 months max. Thankfully, she chose to go ahead with chemo etc, and is still with us today, fighting this horrible disease like a boss.

If anyone would like to sponsor me, here is the Just Giving page. I started with a £200 target, but blew by that and set a new £500 target. I reached that yesterday, so have upped it a little more. Please dont feel obliged though....totally understand these things pop up all the time, and you cant help everyone.

Normally, 200 miles would be easy for me but, considering I've only done 29 miles this year so far on the bike, its going to be a tough ask to push myself to get out on the bike regularly to reach that 200 mark. Praying the weather improves!!

Cheers guys.

Dont know if anyone caught this one a few days ago, but its become one of my favourite early season races over the last 2 or 3 years...the Spanish Strade Bianche - the Jaen Classic. Great race.

I watched the highlights last night....the final time watching cycling on Eurosport after 30+ years.
Wont seem the same without it, & still strikes me as odd that Eurosport is continuing in Europe....but at least I'll have TNT - unlike a lot of people.

Same, a favourite early season race, think its reputation will only grow.
The course seems to change significantly most years but Lutsenko win in '22 was classic viewing.
Unable to watch this years so thanks for link.
Not sure if will get to see Omloop today 🫤

Anybody tuning in on Saturday? Pogacar is obviously clear favourite to win again 😩 but a few other contenders could spring a surprise.
Rouleur reckon Hirschi could be one to watch, and Ben Healy is also an interesting outside bet.

Love this race
Nope.

Since the Eurosport player annual subscription ended, I've walked away from all of it. That's after being really heavily into watching, and completely obsessed with playing fantasy cycling too.

Tbh, it's perfect timing for me. I enjoyed watching Pogacar when he very first broke onto the scene, but since his incredible complete dominance, I really don't enjoy it anymore. So I won't even bother getting a pass so I can watch all the Spring Classics even, which was always my favourite part of the season.

I'm back to riding my bike more and more, now that I can again. Much better than endless hours watching the pros ride theirs.

Totally understand your pov. If I didn't already have TNT, I wouldn't be signing up. I also dont bother anymore with the fantasy cycling.

I was discussing Pogacar with an old school friend on Tuesday, and we were saying the same. His complete dominance, in all races, has taken the shine off the season now. Like you, it was great to see when he burst onto the circuit, but its just a bit tiresome seeing him dominate everything now.

I'll still try to watch, because I can, but it doesn't feel quite the same any more. Still enjoy races though, despite the perceived inevitability of results.

I felt the same watching cyclocross when VdP and Wout turned up, the races just turned into an F1 style procession, the racing was much more exciting without them.

Just got back from my first road bike ride since last September. Blimey. I am not as fit as I was.
Yeah, I was surprisingly out of breath after a lunchtime trip to my LBS.

Anyway, that pump. Having thought I had emptied the charge pumping to 100, I pissed up unconnecting losing a lot of air. I decided to try again even though the charge was on 1 bar flashing. Got it back to 98 before it conked out. Basically 2 tyres' worth. Decent.
