NOT the first (obviously very cool ) single you bought for yourself.

A friend of my parents bought me If I Had A Hammer by Trini Lopez. I still love it

I think the ages of singles was long gone by the time I was interested in Music, but the first album I had bought for me was American Idiot by Green Day.

Daddy Cool by Darts. As I'd just discovered rock particularly Thin Lizzy and The Stranglers that piece of vinyl ended up with boiling water poured on it in an attempt to turn it into an ash tray!

Not quite bought, but I was given Over You by Freddie & The Dreamers when my parents bought our family radiogram, by the salesman who came to deliver/fit it!

"I'm The Leader Of the Gang (I Am)" by Gary Glitter. My nan bought it for me when I was 5.

The first singles will inevitably be novelty records. I think I got the Wombles at Christmas in 1974.

I remember in 1978 being bought a Showaddywaddy track. So that would have been 'Pretty little angel eyes'

"Only You" backed by "The Great Pretender" (or was it the other way round?) by the Platters from my then girl friend for my birthday.

I think my older sister by 10 years bought me 'It's a Mistery' by Toyah instead of an Easter egg.
First singles I bought myself, with WH Smith vouchers we're Killer Queen and Minuetto Allegretto by The Wombles.
I had Eclectic taste at 10 years old.

Peggy Sue by Buddy Holly on a 78! I had a wind-up gramophone at the time but when I finally got a record-player which could play 45s, I smashed up all my 78's and re-bought the single on a 45! How much would it have been worth now?!
