Update from supporter services:

Thanks for taking the time to write to us and for raising your concerns.

I have asked our projects team to give more information on the situation with the covered bike rack by the train station, once I hear back I will let you know.

Just to make you aware, there is also a covered bike rack located in the upper tier drop car park (south side).
Great to have a relevant post ..I was toying with putting the thread on ignore ..for those coming up from say Bridge car park tunnel way the remaining covered rack isn’t that convenient/practical

Look forward to more info

Thanks for emailing the club

Firstly, we don't have good enough road provision for cyclists to have their own space most of the time so they either end up having to share the road with cars, which drivers hate, or they end up sharing the pavement with walkers, which pedestrians hate. Like most things in this country, it's about crumbling old fashioned infrastructure.

There is also a pretentious subculture of cyclists here that I don't think has quite translated to Europe in the same way (in that they, from my experience, seem to have been self-confined to cycling as a hobby and not as a means of transport). The centrist-dad NIMBY Bradley Wiggins wannabes who buy all of the thousands of pounds of gear and live on the highest of horses (with two wheels). The reality is that in London everyone uses either the TFL or Lime Bikes and no one has an issue with that for the most part, it's the stereotype outlined above that causes the knee jerk anger.

And to be fair, it is some of the wankiest most annoying shit - imagine sitting in the office, going through your emails and some bloke is getting unwrapped from his Rapha lycra and bike shoes that he has to wear to signal to everyone that he's a real cyclist on the desk next to you.

Still, Vermin is a pretty far jump off from that, imo, valid annoyance,
I now cycle to all the home games and out of the 100 or so cyclists that do the the same I've yet to see one fitting this description!

Dear

Just following up from my email yesterday.

I have received confirmation from our projects team that the bike racks are being upgraded.

They are due to be replaced on the 10th March, after the Fulham fixture. As mentioned previously, you can use the covered bike racks which are still in place on the upper tier drop.

Kind regards

Oh….heating? Drinking facilities? Towels to wipe you and the bike down on a wet day…..etc…this sounds good 😉

The are details of the new cycle parking facilities on the councils planning pages - two tier covered bike racks with a big increase in numbers.

@Brovion not sure if it's quadruple but it's more than double maybe triple, not sure what's existing.

Thanks, it works.

They look good to be fair.
Sometimes do find the 2nd tier racks are hard to lift up on to though.

I'm a bit confused - this looks like they're adding the two-tier ones AS WELL as the existing 100 ones. So why have they removed the cover in the meantime?

Also where are the 40 existing "Sheffield stand" racks that look like they're under the station on the map? Or is that not precise?

There are sheffield stands under the station ramp but they're not used on match days I don't think due to the queue, so a bit cheeky to include it.

It sounds like a positive development to be fair. Stat Brother also emailed Supporter Services - this is the reply he received:

As part of our capital projects works we are in the process of upgrading and increasing the bike rack provisions on site.

The covered racks have been moved from the right hand side of station approach to enable the ground works required for the new racks to be undertaken. In the interim the covers have been moved to the Village Way end of the site where we are also planning to improve the bike storage provisions. Once completed we will have an increased bike storage provision on site with more covered storage as part of this.
