All’s well that ends well, but I couldn’t understand why Fab left it so long so make the subs. We had a strong bench, had clearly lost energy in the middle of the park and were risking both losing the game and injuries.
Agree. 10 minutes late IMO for Gomez.

Is it now because subs can only be made in three slots that managers (Fab included) tend to make multiple subs..?

I guess he wanted Welbz on, but not too early....so delayed the subbing of Gomez too?

I noticed that his slide rule pass to Mitoma for the chance he just nudged wide was with his left foot. Hard enough to do with his favoured right!
Yep, he judged that one to absolute perfection. It’s early days but already I’m struggling to see where any weaknesses lie that might prevent him from being a top quality midfielder even at this very high level. He seems remarkably well-rounded.

These are the sort of in game decision making FH could still improve on. Not knocking the manager, but the ability to depart from the pre prepared ideas still needs some work.

I think this is a good point which I take to be that decisions like when and who to make substitutions is a little trickier than many of us credit -- and I was one calling for Gomez to be substituted earlier than was the case.

I called it 5 mins or so into the 2nd half that Gomez looked done. But he's not returning from injury like Wieffer who is also being managed backand it wasn't a game for Ayari, he would have been physically bullied prior to 70 mins, so he probably planned for Gomez to play ~60 mins. The anomoly is O'Reilly; where is he? If he doesn't get minutes on Sunday I'll wonder if all is OK there.
I fully understand why FH bought Hinch on and then swapped him with Lamps, that Semenyo is a proper player (although he wasn't up against Veltman!!), I'd be amazed if he's still at Muff by August.

Nah, I reckon Bozza has been in FH's ear and told him that if he delayed the subs, then it would create a deluge of posts complaining and speculating about why he did it (or didn't do it), adding a nice little bit into the NSC Mods' Christmas do from all the extra ad revenue

Alternatively after 60 mins he could have brought Weiffer on for Gomez to protect the lead.
But then there isn't much point speculating.

O' Reilly is definitely an anomaly, as he doesn't play for us 😜

Tim Vickery the South American football expert..said today that we have indeed unearthed another gem, but that throughout his life in football so far, Gomez has had a fitness problem, ie unable to last a full game.... maybe that's why they are easing him in, looked knackered in the 2nd half.

Says "I felt a little tired in the second half because I had two months, almost three" off.

As others said, probably as a result of the sub window rule and, to be fair, those subs on 72 decided the game

Yeh i guess it's not a problem while we have players like Ayari, who are fit and have impressed.

My guess is that we won't turn him into a 90 minute player this season, but after we've given him a proper gruelling pre season, we will for next season
