How does Putin control Trump? Is it a financial matter or the rumoured video?
I don’t think he does, directly. How would anyone control someone like him?

I suspect it’s more that Trump has been favourable to Russia since the ‘80s, which Putin uses to his advantage. Manipulation is probably a better word than control - nudge Trump in the right direction knowing his predilection will do the rest.

Don't you believe the ex-KGB agent who said Trump was "captured" in 1987 and has the codename Krasnov?

I can believe that, I’m just saying I don’t think they use coercion on Trump. It’s well established that he would have met KGB agents in 1987. “Captured” as in “won to our cause”, for sure. “Captured” through some kompromat is debatable - not out of the question, but I don’t think they’d need it for what we’re seeing.

Coercive control is hard work. It breeds resistance because the subject feels the constraint of the trap. Threats have to be constantly reinforced and escalated. Constant monitoring required.

It’s far easier to control someone if they’re a True Believer. They’ll go along willingly and they’ll actively resist efforts from outside to “save” them because they become convinced that the outside saviour is the real threat.

Trump is a narcissist who thinks he’s the greatest super-genius the world has ever seen. “A really high IQ individual“. He’s easily flattered, loves money almost as much as he loves himself.

I’d bet money that when he visited Moscow in 1987, they treated him like a king and that he’s been putty in their hands ever since, easy to manipulate without the need for any threats.

Edit: that still could have included some attractive visitors to his hotel room. Sex is one of the most reliable means of control. But I doubt any level of compromising video would cause a man like Trump embarrassment. But if he got laid every time he went to Moscow, it’s going to have made him very fond of the place.

Its f***ing sick. It makes clear that he sees every war and the deaths of innocent people as a business opportunity. And the golden statues of Trump ffs.

I thought it was put together by someone taking the piss out of Trump when I first saw it. Maybe it was, but Trump's narcissism prevents him from seeing that

And yet I've just been listening to a several minute conversation on radio 5 live where Dotun Adebeyo seems to be defending Trumps AI video and asking if it was "just a joke"

I found it dumfounding and sickening at the same time that he felt the need to, or even found it appropriate to, discuss that in those terms on the BBC.

Adebayo seemed to be tying himself in knots as it began to dawn on him. He even went as far as suggesting similar developments should be replicated on the African coastline.

It's worth a listen if only to understand how far the BBC has fallen, imo.

From 3hrs.48 mins.

so trumps budget bill thing includes massive tax cuts and massive cuts in spending.

i guess this is good for working people as what they lose in services they gain by paying less tax.

I was trying to find clarification that the tax cuts were for worling people. Sadly I couldn't find any butbit would be isane to think that the tax cuts would be for the 13 billionaires in his cabinet and their rich buddies. right?

From memory, the billionaires and millionaires were to get the big tax cuts in the Trump budget.

Lowest earning workers were looking at a 0.5% cut or something.

But this is what we're up against here (and elsewhere) . Somehow rich politicians on the right manage to convince those very much poorer that they (the rich) will be acting in their (the poor's) interests. Tax cuts for the rich end up with lower funding for pretty much everything that low income individuals need (decent public services, a progressive benefits system, social housing, etc, etc). I am constantly amazed at how ex public school types like Johnson, Rees-Mogg, etc, etc managed to present themselves as "men of the people". A great con trick which Trump has mastered in spades.

the major headline of the budget is keeping cuts from previous bill which expires. there's a 22% increase for "average" household without the new bill.

And some people, still banging on about them, have also fallen for the con trick that is Keir Starmer.

The top 3 billionaires hold as much wealth as the bottom 50% of the population. That's nowhere near enough and needs to be addressed
