This is my late father Bill.

He spent his whole life teaching the same class, in the same classroom, in the same key stage group at Hertford Junior school. This was a primary school in Brighton. He did the same job for over 40 years - nearly 47 in fact - and was proud of the education he provided children.

Dad turned down multiple offers of promotions or other more senior jobs as a headmaster because he just wanted to teach. It was his passion.

Sadly he died several years ago. He was a lifelong Albion fan and took me to my first game at the Goldstone in 1992. I took him to his last game at the Amex in 2017.

I’ve been asked by my Mum to ask on social media (this is all I use) for any recollections of my late father. The anniversary of his death is upon us. Did he teach you at Hertford Junior School perhaps?

He taught me! 2nd yr at Hertford in 1982/3 I think. Only recall the year as I lost my Panini sticker album at school (Bright yellow almost complete) which I remember reporting as lost which nobody found. I'd almost completed it as well. Liverpool and Man city players on the front.

I also remember - completely by accident - spelling the word "Shirt" as "Shit" in my history homework and the subsequent "That's not how you spell it" conversation with a twinkle in his eye like yesterday. I was standing there bright red.

Also, I’m sorry about your stickers :(

@igglepiggle Dad always cherished in his later years his vintage Panini collections. One of them sadly was ALMOST complete. He said he found it somewhere, but whenever I pressed him he wouldn’t go into detail. ;)

That was a great album. I saw a really kindly man at a bus stop in Hollingdean Terrace in 1983 who asked me if I wanted it as he had accidentally picked it up with his school teaching files. I said thanks. I only needed a few to complete it.

I'm normally pretty good at laughing at myself but this really is too soon to get over something so traumatic and as recent as this.
