I like that he is getting plenty of game time. Hopefully that convinces him to sign another contract. He looks happy and that’s important. The fact that he covers both FB positions makes him a valuable squad player and I’m not sure he can expect much more than that anywhere else. He is not in competition with Veltman and Estupinean, he is cover for both and should get plenty of game time.
Also Kadıoğlu to come back. Not really sure where his best position is though and if he gets ahead of Lamptey.

I’d forgotten about him! We really do have a fantastic squad at the moment and have cover for pretty much all positions. Fab seems to settling down to less changes and most seem to be due to injuries. less face it the saying “When they are all fit” is never going to happen.

Think he did well under a lot of pressure. The one think you can never, ever, fault Tariq for is lack of effort. And having players like Tariq and Minteh giving everything they have helps the overall team mindset I think. I suspect that Fab values this as much or more than out and out ability (we have plenty of that as well mind you).

Thought he struggled a bit against a very strong opponent to be honest. Absolutely, did his best but JPvH came over a few times to bail him out in the first half, and the second he showed Kluivert on to his stronger foot.

He is playing well and certainly is not the weak player some have perceived.
Everyone has their right to an opinion and I agree with your last para.

Re your earlier points, you would expect CBs to bail out their attacking full backs at times in games, particularly in an end to end game like the one last night where the attacking side press man for man against your defence. It’s not like Veltman never gets bailed out when he plays in that position, contrary to popular belief, and the same happened with Estupiñán last night on the opposite side.

And yes, he and Minteh both showed Kluivert on to his stronger foot (and on to Minteh’s stronger foot), but also into what should’ve been a crowded midfield area with more players to defend him. Sometimes good players, which is what Kluivert is, hit worldies - it happens at this level. It we’re going to detract from his overall performance because his opponent did that, then he really is on to a losing battle with us as supporters.

Fair points, but re CBs, actually you would not want them over to the extent JPvH was, so I don’t agree, all that did was leave a big hole to Webster which was exploited in the first half. It was almost, as if sub-consciously JPvH didn’t trust Tariq, and he came over to help him.

Ideally a defensive midfielder would tuck in rather than lose your entire defensive shape.

Fair point on the showing inside, but it was still not good defending, and having seen it on TV now, I would say Minteh was actually more culpable, as he positioned himself really badly.

I don’t seem to be the only one who felt he struggled, and as per my original post he was against a good opponent. Veltman did a lot better IMO against the same player at Bournemouth.

Agree, he has really benefited from a run of games.

The most noticeable thing for me is how much his left foot has improved.
