Next season, I think 😔.
I was responding to 'does Tariq make the starting 11?' & particularly at RB, of course he doesn't
Not at RB - Veltman is easily in front. I think (along with Velts and Jack) he’s proving to be a player particularly suited to FH’s style of play so as a rotational/back up LB to Pervis, he has my vote.

We have far greater depth in the squad now - part of our problem in 2023/24 was not having the depth to cope with aEuropean campaign and extensive injuries. We have had the same number of injuries this season but been able to work round them with a deeper squad (the only time we looked very thin was for several weeks at the beginning of January in CB).

Thing is, all these players need to maintain minutes or we loose them to other Clubs, I think Lamptey is an excellent squad player, versatile and a workhorse, I would be very sorry indeed to loose him - a certain amount of rotation must be expected (especially in non-League fixtures) or where we have more than one or two fixtures per week.

IMO, we still look a little thin at the back. With Dunk and Veltman out we have 3 fit centre halves, one who is injury prone and another who has just joined us and has no PL experience.
And we played two full backs out of position on Saturday, and brought on another central midfielder to play right back in the second half.

Another excellent performance last night to prove the detractors wrong. It’s great to see.
Thought he struggled a bit against a very strong opponent to be honest. Absolutely, did his best but JPvH came over a few times to bail him out in the first half, and the second he showed Kluivert on to his stronger foot.

He is playing well and certainly is not the weak player some have perceived.

He's certainly improved. Bizarrely, more comfortable at left back now though. I thought he struggled last night (as you say JP helped a lot) but so did a few. We ground it out bravely (& fortunately) but looked a fatigued 11 yesterday

Thought he was bullied and outplayed (and outsprinted) by Semenya for much of the game, could’t handle him. Not a criticism, Semenya is very decent.

Disagree with both these takes... he was ok/good.

Nice to see him being able to play frequently, obviously helps his performances a lot.

Interesting how it looks on TV I guess - from WSL pitchside in the first half in particular Semenya was all over him.
He was, but we were all over him as well. He's a very good player, but while statistics don't tell the whole truth, most metrics say we reduced his impact on the game far more than most opponents.

Thought Lamptey mostly did well, but was definitely being targeted. Got muscled, out jumped for high balls, or outpaced a few times, but likely to happen over 90 mins when 25+ long balls are pumped down that side. Plus Bournemouth are decent are doing exactly that.

He's not as defensively sound as Veltman and does seem to be a targeted by long diagonal balls but as people have said he is getting better. Agree he looks more assured at LB probably because inverted wingers cut in and he's set up well with his stronger foot.

He's great going forward though and to my eyes at least one of the best crossers in the team. Pleased that he's getting a run in the team as he offers something different to dependable if at times pedestrian JV.

I have no problem with his performance last night whilst acknowledging that he was under massive pressure very often. Bournemouth targeted the right side, and then when the subs were made, it became obvious that actually it was Lamptey himself that they were targeting. So he was under massive pressure and I think he coped well.

I also think he is a bit too keen to pass backwards sometimes. I get that it is necessary on occasion, but he is terrified of being caught in possession, and sometimes I think that exposes a weakness in itself.

I like that he is getting plenty of game time. Hopefully that convinces him to sign another contract. He looks happy and that’s important. The fact that he covers both FB positions makes him a valuable squad player and I’m not sure he can expect much more than that anywhere else. He is not in competition with Veltman and Estupinean, he is cover for both and should get plenty of game time.
