It's still kinda mad to me that "Brighton face top-six rivals Bournemouth" is a sentence on the Sky Sports News website and they're talking about the Premier League.

Yes. If you want a dog shit South Coast derby, you'll have to go to Fratton next season to see the home team take on an equally wank Southampton. Fierce rivals and all that, but an insignificant game for the rest of the country. Pleasing.

I’m not sure you watch the same games as me though :lolol:

joke!
I highlighted that he’d misjudged a few headers in that game and got beaten a few times, which he did. It’s not rocket science. But any bad word, even if it’s true, against Veltman on here is dealt with as sacrilegious.

I know this is hard for people to comprehend, but I rate both Veltman and Lamptey, I just think they’re different types of player with different strengths, and both need different types of support to succeed.

But hey ho, if that’s being contrarian and deserving of rudeness (not from you), then so be it.

Agree with that.

For instance the game against Everton really showed the weaknesses of Veltman. It was a clear strategy from Everton to allow Veltman to have the ball, particularly in the second half when he played as LB. They just let him have the ball and covered all options instead. Since he can't carry the ball past opponents, is not great at the long pass and has a meh left foot, he just had to pass it back to Verbruggen every single time. In scenarios like that, it would always be beneficial to have a Lamptey-like player instead, someone who can carry the ball.

In another game, I think it was either Leicester or Wolves, the opponents many times did the "Flo pass" (having a tall strong player getting into aerial duels with a small full back), and Lamptey didn't have the calmness Veltman would always have had in these situations. Instead of just standing off and covering the edge of the penalty area while support was on their way, he decided to go into the duel, lost balance and they scored.

None of Lamptey or Veltman are TOP, TOP CLASS right backs that works well in every single scenario, so its quite nice to have both as we can pick the right one for the right sitation.

I agree, depending on who we play choose Lamptey or Veltman, assuming neither are injured as they both seem injury prone, although Lamptey not so much recently 🤞

I have long been an advocate of players in squads being chosen dependent on the strengths and weaknesses of the teams we are playing over “don’t change a winning team”
