Not true.
That's interesting..what actions have Brittania started? Even the initial remedial works were undertaken by the council and billed to brittania which last I heard, they hadn't paid off.

The problem is that as a company they have a policy not to respond to media requests so if you know more it would be helpful. Yes they will need specialist surveyors due to the building age and location but it seems they have to be shamed at each stage into taking action.

From LinkedIn I’m pretty sure HNW Architects have been appointed along with a design team I
with HOP as structural engineers. Don’t believe any planning apps have gone it yet, so still early days.

I am not in a position to share details but suffice it to say it is not simply a case of knock it down and rebuild it.

But absolutely agree it is taking a long time. I can say with surety that Britannia want to get the hotel reopened and start making it profitable.

Thanks both. That's really good to know.

As I say, I appreciate the complexities of the building which when dealing with an opaque company like Brittania it's not always clear on progress being made or costs being met

Of course there is now the added complication of Asbestos being found in parts of the surviving structure.

You'd have thought Britannia would have been quick off the mark after 3 other of their historic hotels have burnt down in recent years.
The Britannia in Aberdeen burnt down in June 2016, while The Britannia in Manchester and The Trecarn in Torquay were both engulfed in flames in 2022.

Langsam, the owner, is also the man who blacklisted 40 traveller surnames from being allowed into his Pontins holiday camps.
A prison sentence and confiscation of deliberately run down hotels being prepared for demolition at the expense of guests safety wouldn't be dragonian.

Langsam? That’s German for 'Slow' so that might explain the length of time it’s taking.

Shamed? I don’t think this lot do shame.

Don't insurances pay out based on full occupancy while something like this occurs- its probably more profitable now than its ever been!

FYI

The vulnerable section of the building is being demolished today.

Roads should be open again over Friday and Saturday.

Maybe even one lane open later today.
