You'd more for saying mean words online. But theres no 2 tier justice system in the UK
As mentioned above, any MP who faces imprisonment can be recalled if at least 10% of the population of his/her consituency signs a petition. If that 10% threshold is reached, then the MP loses the seat. Amesbury will have no choice in the matter.A sustained coward's attack, well done that judge or magistrates.
Will Amesbury do the right thing and resign his seat? Probably not, criminally convicted MP's of all colours including the SNP hold on to the gravy train/ego trip for dear life.

The sentence is suspended and if the person reoffends is added to any additional sentence. If that is not a deterrent then all I can say is you can’t legislate for stupidity.A 10 week sentence might not achieve anything, but it might act as a deterrent to the next thug who is thinking of whacking someone around the chops.
I would like to add that anyone receiving a custodial sentence should be sent to prison for a couple of days while the sentence is confirmed. I am sure that a first offender having experienced this would be very unlikely to re-offend. I speak from experience as an ex Prison Officer. The sentence is suspended and if the person reoffends is added to any additional sentence. If that is not a deterrent then all I can say is you can’t legislate for stupidity.
Little bit patronising to be fair WZ, he's still an MP and if he stands down, that will prompt a by election, so if Starmer doesn't want that surely he will let him do his time and then come back to Westminster? There's nothing to say Amesbury can't do that is there?Congratulations Lenny, you're understanding of the situation and options available is truly remarkable, but don't let facts get in the way of your opinion.
Let's hope it's a different 'well connected' source for your second one![]()
Amesbury is suspended as a Labour MP.Little bit patronising to be fair WZ, he's still an MP and if he stands down, that will prompt a by election, so if Starmer doesn't want that surely he will let him do his time and then come back to Westminster? As for the second thing, you know the source and you wouldn't doubt him either.
It’s not suspended is it ? He was taken down immediately and refused bail pending appeal. The sentence is suspended and if the person reoffends is added to any additional sentence. If that is not a deterrent then all I can say is you can’t legislate for stupidity.

Yes, I was talking about Spain and how I think it works better here. Just my opinion. It’s not suspended is it ? He was taken down immediately and refused bail pending appeal.
Out in 4 most likely but still won't be a pleasant experience for him I hope. Glad it's happened, I had feared he'd come away with a suspended or community order.10 weeks ? Outside a football ground 18 months .
What happened at Hove station?Variation on a theme, but I've been told by a very well connected local person, that all the 'nonce busting' mullarkey at Hove station won't go to court either.

Six fouls would just get a yellow card these daysIn 1797 John Watford was sentenced at Seaford Assizes for stealing six fowls from Mr Blaker of Portslade and was transported for 4 years. Just saying.
...and Watford have been going down ever since. In 1797 John Watford was sentenced at Seaford Assizes for stealing six fowls from Mr Blaker of Portslade and was transported for 4 years. Just saying.
As I said above this applies in Spain and I find it very sensible. 10 weeks in prison is horrendously expensive. When I was working in the Prison Service we commented that the Young Offenders we were locking up cost more than sending them to Eton! The sentence wasn't suspended and he was refused bail for a pending appeal.
He is currently in Altcourse Prison.
He won’t do anything like 10…..As I said above this applies in Spain and I find it very sensible. 10 weeks in prison is horrendously expensive. When I was working in the Prison Service we commented that the Young Offenders we were locking up cost more than sending them to Eton!
I know several probation officers and a community sentence would probably be more beneficial for many offenders rather than just banging them up in some drug ridden hell-hole, although I believe there can be issues with having to do unpaid work as there isn't always any suitable unpaid work available (I haven't noticed a chain gang locally recently). The trouble is that many people regard probation as a softer option, even though it isn't - although to receive the benefits, an offender has to want to reform. As I said above this applies in Spain and I find it very sensible. 10 weeks in prison is horrendously expensive.
