What’s weird about that whole exit was Barber was constantly saying how much he enjoyed working with him and what a fantastic job he was doing despite all the injuries on media outlets (essentially TS) going late into the season.

I think he was hoping that by continuing to big him up - at a time lots of big clubs were parting with their managers - someone would come in and pay the release clause.

Exactly. I never got the love in; he is needy, attention seeking and unstable and was so pretty much from the start with us.
You hated our European tour? Smashing Potters Chelsea, knocking Liverpool out of the cup, humiliating Artetta at the Emirates? I call bullshit you went batshit like the rest of us.
Or may be you really did hate the highest peak in our history so far.

You can enjoy the football but not the man. I saw 6/8 of the European Tour; it was great, marred only by seeing RDZ slumped on the bench deflated and giving no leadership in Rome, and completely ignoring fans that he supposedly loved. We shall never know, but I hazard a guess that Potter would have taken Albion at least as far, having won 10 of the 13 PL matches prior to leaving.

He’s not a fan of referees full stop unless decisions go his way all game. He’s an obsessive about winning. It’s what makes him brilliant, charismatic, flawed and stroppy. You either like it or you hate it.
Or, you like it sometimes and also hate it occassionally.

I don’t get the Potter would have done this or that he didn’t the season before despite another good start early doors.
Maybe is one thing achievement is another.
Brighton lost to Roma, Roma let that sink in, did we really expect to win with a broken squad? Glad you enjoyed the trips though.

Playing gung ho football away from home against in form sides, when you have an injury ravaged squad, is either naive or arrogant or both. Fab did the same at Forest, were you as forgiving of that? Interestingly neither manager held their hands up and admitted getting it wrong post match.

Liked it when it was working for us, hated it when it all went tits up and he effectively downed tools………..which was always going to happen.

I saw Elfsborg, 7th placed in the Swedish league (ranked 23rd in Europe), beat Roma 1-0 in October, some six months after beating us 4-0.

De Zerbi spent most of the pre-game press conference talking about the greatness of Roma, and about how we've written history.

We went into the game with the attitude of "we're satisifed what we've accomplished" and in professional sports, this attitude means you'll lose.

The Europa League and Conference League are the two easiest (or least difficult) competitions that a non top 4 team in England could win. A team that finishes top 6 in England should beat the Serie A equivalent. Certainly not lose 4-0.

Going to Roma, talking up their team and telling everyone how pleased we are what we accomplished (also known as nothing), and then starting this away game with Joel Veltman, Pervis Estupinan and Carlos Baleba on the bench... its a joke. A lot of people don't follow European football and will think "well, we gave it a go", but most people who follow European football closely won't share that view... We threw away the best chance this club has had of winning a title.

Luckily there will be more European adventures.

Re - Potter, we’ll just never know.
He certainly laid the foundations, and we were playing well when he left, but he also had winless runs every year he was with us, even prior to the last 13 games if memory serves me correctly.

P7 L6 D1 F1 before that run. And, of course, before that run we beat Watford away. People will just cut off the stats where it suits them.

There's a few of those on here too. Are we Fab In or Out this week? 😉
If that’s directed at me I climbed onto the fence after our poor run and the Forest result so not sure how that makes me a drama queen! I never threatened to find another team to follow :lolol:

Milan rumours also appeared again this weekend..
I could see that happening. Its the type of person Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks he wants to employ as a Milan manager but also one he'd fall out with within five minutes.

This isn’t a good Roma team. They’re on their 3rd manager since they beat us - currently 9th in Serie A

Of course they will.

For me…
Without Hughton you don’t survive and get Potter
Without Potter you don’t have the style of play and foundation
Without RdZ you don’t take the style of play further and hit Europe

They have all played an important role.
