Sourdough toast is overrated, like eating burnt cardboard. And why is it that cafes that serve it do not offer any other options? Bread Nazis. There, said it, feel better now 😂

On the subject of bread, I’ve been buying milk bread recently, our local supermarket has started baking it fresh. It’s the perfect bread for a bacon sandwich.

Bread philistines. Ugh. I make my own bread, including sourdough when I have time. It’s years since I bought any factory-made damp cardboard style, chemical-stuffed sliced supermarket junk.

To be honest, the greater concern is what’s in that little pot. I always thought you were a real man?

What on earth is that abomination? Doesn't look like decent sourdough to start with, and has it been deep fried after it was grilled?

What is this milk bread you talk of, i hope it’s made with man’s milk and not soy?
I only heard about it a year or so ago. It sounds more grand than it actually is. In short it’s a soft squidgy white loaf which is the closest I have found to a decent UK white loaf. It originates from post war Asia apparently.

Germany can be a strange place at times, for all the different types of bread they sell (and it’s a lot), from my experience squidgy white bread is rare. Given their love of eating pigs, cured bacon is also rare. When I first moved here I used to make my own bacon. There’s now a Kiwi butcher who makes bacon you and me would recognize, and also banger style sausages, black and white pudding etc. It is delivered to my door by a lovely guy from Brighton.

To answer your question, “Typical ingredients include flour, whole milk, butter, yeast, salt, sugar and often eggs.” I’m sure there’s girls versions out there but I’m certain my supermarket used proper manly whole milk.

It is. And it really isn’t anything particularly special… in one sense it’s a plain old supermarket loaf. And perfect for a bacon sandwich.
