There are a few two-day pre-season friendlies on the Sussex fixture site now. Hants and Kent away, then Surrey and Hants at home. Mostly before the clocks go forward, so bring a warm coat and be prepared to park at the Cromwell Road end and turn on your headlights after tea.

Unrelated to Sussex but I see Middlesex have signed Kane Williamson - what a coup that is, he's a fabulous player.

Can't wait to see him in the CC against Sussex ... Oh, wait ...
That's a HUMDINGER of a signing. I'm trying to work out his availability though. Pakistan are in New Zealand April/May. I assume he is going to Zimbabwe in the high summer (when we don't play much county cricket....)

EDIT: Looks like he's here in June and late August/September. He performing at some circus thingy in August.

On that note, who are the biggest names coming to Hove now we've been promoted?

We've got Gurinder Sandhu for 4 county championship games. (Me neither).

Not sure how long we have Jayden for. Hopefully most of the Championship games. We lose him to ODIs throughout the summer. We should have Hughes, Undakat and McAndrew for much of the summer. Unadkat is the one who I think will do well. The bloke above, I recognise the name, but nothing else.

He's tall.

Don't know which games he's with us for, probably something to do with the stop start fixture list.

What a shame not one Sussex Cricket Club team took the opportunity to fundraise for their club in the John Simpson hosted Club Legend vs The Pro Challenge.

Pathetic.

Do the better informed than me think we shall come straight back down , or what ?
Worcester and Durham survived last year. There is hope.

Aim is to challenge in top half and win it with current group of players and coach.

Because a lot of Sussex stuff gets posted out to members on paper and never goes online:

Operating losses have widened from £217k in 2023 to £388k last year. This seems to be down largely to a fall in rents and commercial income. The club extended its overdraft facility in October. However all of the Tate offices are now let so that income will show up next year. Plus they will get £27m from the Hundred so it's not that big a deal.

At Hove there are new caterers; a new west scoreboard; and better streaming cameras.

And.... Brenda has been nominated as a vice president. Not before time.

Does this mean I now have to accept The Hundred as a necessary evil ?

I won't be watching it. And despite the money that appears to be coming in I'm not convinced that cricket as we know it has a future. And I will take no joy if I'm not proved wrong. I want to be wrong.

Yes I think it does mean the 'necessary evil' Hundred is here to stay. The millions on offer from the franchise purchases will prop up some form of County Cricket for the time-being - but they will clearly cherry pick the best dates, TV deals etc...

Such a pity it is not the County T20 teams with which people at least have some affinity - and the T20 format as played around the world.

Wait, what?

£27m?

From the hundred? A competition we're not even in? So there's 18 counties, I guess they all get something like that? That's some broadcast deal, because i'm guessing this competition isn't being bankrolled by an increase in crisp consumption or the hordes of women and children that have suddenly discovered cricket is for them and got themselves a ticket
