Not sure I get this: Endgame was a culmination / pulling together of some 20-odd movies and multiple seasons of Agents of Shield & Agent Carter etc. It was both an 'event' and at the same time required homework, as per your description. Or alternatively, for many punters, it didn't require the homework and they just got through the movie relying on Antman's exposition.

Endgame is probably the best example in recent years of where oversaturation of MCU content across platforms has not had a detrimental impact on the output. That said, I'm sympathetic to the core point of oversaturation, and it's definitely true that they've doubled down since with mixed :moo: results

I can't deny you've got a point in that 20 odd films going to one was a bit - to say the least - saturated even back then.

There was a plan to get to the end though and stuff like the Agents of Shield was handy viewing rather than essential (Ant man more so granted). Guardians of the Galaxy for example was a great one off film but also had an infinity stone and slotted into the timeline whether you'd watched one film or all of them.

The introduction of Disney plus changed all that as they introduced more and more of it that intersected with the over arching timeline that confused you if you hadn't watched it. Most of it was crap as well and contradicted or overwrote what had gone before. Whatever your thoughts on the volume of content we can all agree it's lost its way.

I never really cared all that much about the whole Marvel franchise to be honest but I did enjoy watching stuff as a family that was great at its best (Guardians for example) and watchable at its worst. Since Endgame, it's fallen apart.

Shogun is the only thing on Disney plus I've enjoyed in the past year.

If we're talking Bond clobber and style surely this is the pinnacle? He made some great suits but designer Anthony Sinclair knocked it out of the park with the Goldfinger 3 piece gray glen plaid. Superb!

I know that is an iconic Bond suit but for me it is very much ‘of its time’ with the boxy cut, waistcoat lapels and pleated trouser.

Tom Ford created some beautiful suiting for Daniel Craig’s 007 - none more so that this absolute corker in a muted Prince of Wales check that Bond wore in Die Another Day

Yeah I'm basically with you on all of that (especially Shogun, which I loved)

I heard that podcast as well - they were raving about Barbara Broccoli and her cast iron grip on the product, insisting for example that Bond had to be British. As others have said on here, Richard Osman's prediction was that if they got control Amazon would flood the market with prequels, spin offs, mini-series, cartoons etc. He seemed to think BB would never let go for that reason. I guess everyone has their price, or more likely Amazon had her over a barrel and had found a way to do it whether she wanted it or not, so she had to cash in.
Nope, they had a price, $1bn according to the Times.

I can obviously tell from the majority of the replies here that many aren’t Bond fans - that’s fine. But loads are, like me.

And sorry to be boring and actually discuss the topic at hand, but I am very concerned about what Amazon will do to the franchise.

They haven’t acquired it only in order to make a film every three years. They want a big return on investment. Big shades of Disney’s buying Star Wars. Multiple spin-offs of varying quality and saturation of the brand. Exactly what Barbara Broccoli was so against.

Keeping Bond as a rare treat is fully in line with the character and with the Bond universe. He is portrayed as “premium” in everything he does, the designer watches, the cars, the stunning women.

A Bond movie every three to five years is an EVENT and whether you enjoy Bond movies or not, it gets everyone talking. From the casting, to the theme song - it’s always a highlight of the cinematic year and intrudes into wider culture.

I personally think having a Q spin off series, a Moneypenny spin off series, origin stories for pre-007 Bond and all the other ideas they’ll be developing hugely cheapens the brand.

Back in the day, there were three Star Wars movies and the series was considered a classic. Then they said, “instead of making no more money… why don’t we make loads more money?” and made another three. And another three. And spin off movies. And spin off series. And animated series. And a multiverse, and Lego Star Wars and comics and so on.

And now that franchise has long been a joke; but at least Disney made a shit ton of money.

This is exactly what I see happening to Bond.

Oh and I bet they do something silly with the casting. Amazon will want Americans in this.
You make some great points. I’m a big Bond movie fan but after killing off Bond in the last film I could never see a way back from that and Barbara Broccoli has cashed in because I don‘t think she even saw where the next movie was coming from . I mean, how can you deliver another James Bond movie when James Bond was killed in the last ? It’s not as if they can suggest he miraculously survived that last scene !

What ever they do now its going to be tainted by that decision to kill him off

I like the idea of doing a younger Bond, but there is no jeopardy as you know he will be OK
Cant really claim Craig's Bond was in a different Bondverse as we had the same M and at the end of Die another Day they had paintings of the old Ms on the wall.
Cant claim he survived

It was just a baffling choice to do it

That's a great call but to be fair Daniel Craig looks sharp in a black bag. My fave film of his is in fact Layer Cake where he not only plays the part but looks it too. The Richard James cream suit at the end is fantastic.

I am very surprised that anyone really cares about James Bond any more. The whole 007 thing has been done to death.

Oh, loads do. Me included. Lots of things have been done to death but are still interesting and exciting, like football for instance. Not that I agree 007 has been done to death, but I suspect it will be that way in the coming years under Amazon’s ownership.

I loved Bond growing up and… I’m not bothered about this.

It won’t change the original films or wipe out my childhood.

The franchise lost its allure a long, long time ago.

I doubt many people under 30 care about it. My kids certainly don’t.
