Just another message of support for @Bozza who puts up with far more than any man should have to when running this place.

The only thing I will say is I hope lessons have been learnt going forward in how to deal with certain users who choose to spread hate. There can be zero tolerance, because someone is always ready to throw your good will and attempts to be balanced in your face.

**** them.

If I run this board I would ditch the political threads, as it appears that is where all the issues start off. Of course I might be wrong. But how easy would that be? let the other platforms deal with it.
You would probably loose 75 % of the stress and moderators over night.

Or a sub-forum. When @Bozza did something similar in 2020?, The Bear Pit, the volume of political grandstanding and insults fell off a cliff.

It's a fair point, and I keep well clear of the political threads anyway, but I think it would be a shame for all those that enjoy them. A quick skim of the thread titles shows how eclectic the board is, and politics, for many, is a part of that mix.

Not been on NSC for a few days so only just read. Heartedly agree with vast majority of sentiments expressed on here.

FWIW when the Oct attacks happened, I was so shocked, and so upset by the rhetoric against Isreal that I walked away from NSC, newspapers, radio and TV for a period. Few world events have ever done that, but this one did. Because I do think (and will still argue) anti-Israel and anti-semitism are one and the same. That's my opinion. Some share. Some don't. And that's life. Eventually it's best just to leave the room and that's what I did on that particular thread i.e. choose to hide it.

I've done this on many political and religious threads since.
They do tend to be dominated by a small circle, and I'm now really mindful of getting sucked into for my own sanity sake. Others might want to look at some of these long running ones and check just how many posts they've made and consider a time out. It's not healthy to have made THOUSANDS of posts on A SINGLE thread - you are dominating to the point of bullying even, and are certainly too involved. As Bozza famously says, you're not going to win the internet!

World events truly are scary right now, and have been for 5 or more years. Like we're accelerating into an abyss. My own coping mechanism is increasingly to hide from it. I don't watch news, when I was an addict. I listen to music now, and turn off for bulletins/wait five mins and then go back to. Avoid podcasts, newspapers and so forth. Many others I know do same. There's so much bitterness and hate in the world currently we all need to take a look at ourselves, and be a lot kinder.

Excuse me
There's a bucket I need to be sick into
It's good that you are enjoying the thread, but don't put it before the need to be sick. In future, don't feel the need to let us know. You might not make it to the bucket. How are you feeling now ?

The introduction of the Ignore thread has been very helpful.
Must of the political threads get the Ignore treatment, leaving the emphasis on sport and light-hearted stuff.
So far I've never yet placed any individuals on ignore.

The site is a real gem. Thanks all that enable it to run.
Definitely this. I don’t know what happened in said thread as I ignored it ages ago. I also don’t ‘ignore’ individuals as it can mean not seeing new threads etc. I do have a few posters I won‘t engage with at all though.

It's taken over 25 years to get my first warning . . . . For using the word 'Pufter' which was deliberately mispelt in an ironic way, but misread by a few, my apolagies to the offended. . . .

Anyway. I love NSC, whatever is going on in my life I can dip in, and out, it will raise and lower the tone, in every respect . . . But usually lift ones mood, in just a few minutes . . . NSC is Guaranteed to make for a gay day.

Long may it reign.

“I’ll always try my hardest to keep this community alive - it continues to help so many people get through life.”

Well said Bozza! That one sentence says it all. I am so grateful to you and the other mods for keeping this site alive.

It has helped me cope with so much… Caring for an elderly parent, managing mental health, valuing myself and my family, making the most of retirement and dealing with Albion losses!
It has never helped me particularly cope with anything, but I appreciate enormously what it does for so many others, and the caring people who are on here!

Keep on keeping on!

edit. Just read the original Bozza post to which this refers, and if NSC/Bozza needs a character witness I’d be very happy to oblige. This is mostly tongue in cheek, but……..

Islamophobia and antisemitism is completely unacceptable in any form. I have always maintained a humanitarian perspective despite coming from a family that has been ‘on the wrong side of hate’. I have not hesitated to call out extremism, racial intolerance or racial stereotyping, whom ever it is directed at and from whatever source it is generated.

I think removing the thread was a shock but entirely sensible - I had not posted on it for weeks but I felt there had been too much stereotyping and demonising whole populations of people for too long on ‘both sides’ - but this was not an NSC specific issue - the whole conflict narrative has been characterised by that too in mainstream media and social media as well as by the protagonists on both sides directly involved in the conflict in the ME.

The same thing is happening with an ‘anti-Americans’ sentiment now because of Trump, when it’s less than half the population that voted for him. When I think how hard the American members of my family fought to keep Trump out and how devastated and scared they are that they failed, strong anti-American rhetoric (directed at the whole population without distinction) are to me, misplaced and unfair.

However, social media and its polarising debates on what are complex matters don’t generally lend themselves very easily to balance and nuance unfortunately.

Tough decisions by the mods but entirely the right one. In early days, it was both informative and helpful but tbh the whole thing has been a minefield from start to finish.
This, and fwiw much of what was informative and helpful came from your hand. Your information was balanced, nuanced interesting and informative. I think it is a great shame that all that learning has now been lost. I also salute you and others for continuing to post such information for so long against such adversity from others.

Agree with all the sentiment on here. Originally 'found' NSC during a pretty dark period in my life and it was a great crutch (not crotch) to lean on at the time. I had a flounce, got tarred and feathered in public, learned the etiquette, and joined the gang.

Things on the up now and I don't have as much time to get involved (which ain't a bad thing..) but I do visit the site every day and look in.

Kudos to Bozza and everyone involved. I used to own and run a technology based website with similar traffic and it was really hard work. I sold it last year, and to be honest I don't miss it at all.

Hats off to everyone on here for making it fun. 99% lovely people, 1% Juan Kerrs - but that 1% always get called out. Love the support people give each other on here too, wether it be psychological or practical.

May NSC keep truckin'

I did a long post last year summing up how much and why I love NSC and I’m too tired and had too many glasses of wine to try and repeat or search for it.

But I do love NSC and having been a bit of an ‘exile’ for over 30 years (admittedly only about 70 miles an exile), it’s been an essential part of my Albion supporting life starting with writing posts about Rod Thomas on the earliest iteration from a Southampton college computer in 1998 as we didn’t have the internet at home.

Thank you for all you do to keep NSC running Bozza. My life would be sadder without it. Would love to meet up these individuals who want to shut it down.
