What an amazing fairytale story it has been for that fan. Absolutely loved this.

Amazing by the club for its role in this. Thanks so much for Kazuo and the club for documenting the story.

...and well done the team & Kaoru for making that match this man will never forget!

I'm crying - but just a little bit ;) When I saw the ground in daylight I was very worried it was the Everton game!

I am intrigued by all the Japanese fans, there are just so many every game. So was wondering - are they UK residents / students who go to every game, or are they all tourists with the Amex the next stop after Buckingham Palace and Stonehenge? Are they flying here specially?

And how do they get tickets - can't believe they're all signing up for fan numbers and navigating the ticket exchange - are they getting them off dodgy third parties or has the club set up a ticket service in Japanese - I'm suspecting the latter.....

I really do enjoy them coming along though, something very nice about having them around and being 'their' club.

That is just absolutely sensational.

And now I want to know more: what brought Charlie to Brighton in 1973? See, it was a very cosmopolitan place then as well - not that much has changed. What a legend. Bring him back! Or maybe he’s still in the queue for the park and ride.
He's just turned 72, so would have been 19/20 when he arrived here and stayed for five years. Probably a foreign PHD student at Sussex Uni.

Last season I was on the train to Falmer and met a Japanese fan who was going to his first game and was unsure of where to go. As it happened his ticket was for the West Upper - same as me. I advised him to tag along with me to save any problems. I asked how long had he been in the U.K. thinking that he might be a student or on a long holiday. Nope! He told me he flew from Tokyo and arrived that morning, was staying in Brighton overnight and returning to Japan the following morning. Now THAT my friends is one dedicated fan.

I'm easily moved to lachrymosity, and that beautiful video has set me off a treat.

Are you sure he’s not a ground hopper? 😉

Brighton factually.....
Oh my, that did actually bring tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat.
Never judge a book by a cover is a saying I have always stood by, and this enforces my view even more. I often hear folk moaning about tourist fans, what do you know of their background, some of them will be new, but we all start somewhere and some of them will be old fans like Charlie and probably their support although from afar never waivered or we are not a second team to them.

Also incredibly proud of the club again, love stuff like this...

What a game Charlie for you to witness, total respect.
