[Albion] The last “Great” night at the Goldstone?

May 1972. Over 34000 when we beat Rochdale 1-0 to get promoted. Templeman scored?

Queued for well over an hour in Goldstone Lane against the brick wall.
It was a 1-1 draw.
We went up and Rochdale stayed up. Both teams needed a point.
I was there, and yes, it was a hell of a crowd. I was living in Bournemouth at the time and had a very happy journey driving home.😁👍

Also I don't think you can call it the 'last' great night which was the OP's question. In fact it definitely wasn't as the Sheff Wed game at the end of the season (where we clinched promotion) was great.

I'd probably go with the Liverpool game, but, and this is O/T, if the question was 'Greatest night at the Goldstone' that could be interesting. (I'd probably go for the Derby league cup tie)
No, for others clearly not the last, but I don't appear to have total recall of all the Brighton games I have ever been too, unlike many here. I do though CLEARLY remember being in my favourite spot at the back of the East terrace, nearly in line with the halfway line, standing on the bottom rail of the support barrier, for a better view.

So no, while this may not be the "last" great night game, without going through a list of all the games I attended, and kick off times, this IS the one that sticks out for me... 😁

EDIT - having read the number of posts on here that have been shot down, I'm really glad I went with one I COULD remember!!! 😂

One that sticks out for me was West Ham at home one evening all my mates bailed so I went by myself thinking this is going to be a shit night. What a game West Sham everywhere packed Goldstone and we won. Around 88 If I remember.

Probably not the “greatest”, but the 7-0 tonking of Walsall in October ‘76 lives on in my mind. Literally a game of two halves and 2 Albion greats.

oh! and it spurned an NSC user name, to boot…
Missed the game as I was on holiday in Cornwall. Heard the result on the radio and indulged in a few bevvies to celebrate Spider 3 and Wardy 4.😀

11 v 11 says this was a Weds night in 1991. Remember it too - I only missed one game all season.

Hmm. Fair play to your memory. I just remember it was dark. And im not betting my life on that. There's been 500 or so games in between!

It was a 3pm Saturday kick off in April so wouldn't have been dark.

My last one was Exeter in February '97. 1-0 and Mark Ormerod saved us near the end, scary how the 'great escape' could so easily have gone the other way.

Favourite though was the Derby League Cup game in 1976, closely followed by an absolute cracker in March '71 when Pat Saward's side beat Fulham 3-2.

And yes all under the floodlights!😉

Thank you. I knew it was a 1-1 draw yet for some reason I claimed a win! TTBH I don’t remember much about the match but the young timbha remembers the queuing, the queue at the Chicken Run coffee hut, and fans standing on the rail at the back of the terracing. I stood down the front. My dad was about 20 steps (and a few thousand fans) back.

It also says an attendance of 11k that can’t be right
I don't think we were brilliant at counting in those days :lolol:

When you got a capacity crowd like Arsenal or Bristol Rovers in 87-88 you couldn't really fudge it but otherwise there were lots of games where I reckon we undercooked it a bit. No evidence but something our group used to talk about a lot.

Remember there being a rumble of laughter whenever the crowd was announced

The last game under lights was Barnet. A 1-0 victory with Baird chesting the ball home after a Stuart Storer centre.

It was a great atmosphere. The Barnet coach likened the noise to Anfield and Old Trafford.
I took a photo of my late Dad with the floodlights in the background as we left the ground thinking that both the floodlights and my Dad wouldn’t be around much longer….. 😢

It was a bit of a scrum outside the West turnstiles, but a very good natured atmosphere.
Such happy memories of being 23 all those years ago. Coming up to 77 now. Can’t believe it!😩😳

Yes - that is the night for me. My brother had been working in Saudi and I had been sending him Air Mail letters telling him how great Ward and `Mellor were. At the game, his first in a long time, he was less than impressed until......
