The last game under lights was Barnet. A 1-0 victory with Baird chesting the ball home after a Stuart Storer centre.

It was a great atmosphere. The Barnet coach likened the noise to Anfield and Old Trafford.
And they gave the attendance out at 9,000 when it was bloody packed in there

Not the last great evening game, but the England u21 game must get a shout. Not only was it England playing at the Goldstone but Ward got a hatrick.

This was the time when people did know England were actually playing.

May 1972. Over 34000 when we beat Rochdale 1-0 to get promoted. Templeman scored?

Queued for well over an hour in Goldstone Lane against the brick wall.

Great nights at the Goldstone

For the wrong reasons 4 May 1982 beat Wolves 2-0, but announced that HMS Sheffield had been hit by an Exocet missile in the Falklands War.

Two other games against Wolves both cup games which we lost 2-3

24 September 1969 (League Cup) and 9 January 1979 (FA Cup)

And mentioned already the soaking in the 7-0 win over York City, Wade's 4 goals.

Maybe Beckham's debut and the Liverpool replay.

What year was the unexpected 2-1 win against Man City? When the ball boy headed the ball into the crowd?

I can only think of the Withdean one (was that 2-1?).
1989. Keith Cuss. Like Orient that also was a Saturday afternoon.

EDIT: And the Villa game that someone else mentioned was also a Saturday afternoon.

That explains your threads on Greatest ever foreign signing, possibly Greyhound Stadium, but not sure how you are going to weave Lucy Letby into your book 😉
Maybe he has discovered that Lucy Letby was once one of Gully's Girls?

My very last game at the Goldstone (before I went travelling) was in February 1997, a night game against Exeter City which we won 1-0.

I used to love arriving at the evening games, walking across the park, cross Old Shoreham Road, straight in the turnstiles, up the stairs, and then when you got to the top step of the North Stand you would see the pitch bathed in this golden light from the floodlights, it always looked absolutely perfect, before going to find my place on the terrace (close enough to the singers so I could join in every song and bounce around, but not too close, because I was no way confident enough to be right in the thick of it !)

Can still visualise it all today, almost 30 years later
