Do you not think this could be some mental breakdown?
If some many babies have died under her watch anyone would think they have done something wrong and be paranoid/mentally unstable.

I'd be strongly inclined to go with the doctors on the ground who first raised concerns. They wouldn't do that shit lightly

I know one of the panel and have worked with him in the past on an EU grant on diabetes and obesity.

I think his background is chemical engineering, but he was certainly an expert in insulin dynamics when I knew him and that was his role in the project. He doesn't say she is not guilty. He does say that the cases of insulin posioning are not supported by the evidence presented. This seems to be a common theme in her conviction and she had a very lightweight defence team. I can't say is it is a miscarriage of justice but on Geoff's analysis it looks unsound.

Start making sense
For everyone else’s benefit what were the concerns? That Letby was harming babies or was incompetent or something else?

From what I gathered from the court case, they ruled out the 10 because Letby wasn't there and then used the fact that she was there at the other 8 to be evidence of guilt. The original 18 were all deemed to be natural until they changed their mind and decided to look for murder.

the other thing is the odd bed fellows this case has made. people seem to want to find her not guilty.

It’ll be very interesting to see if an appeal goes anywhere.
This seems very much like one of those cases of “That’s it. We found our culprit. Move on. Nothing to see here. Nope, don’t listen to doubters. She’s our murderer”

This case hinged on the idea that to get the odds of two related babies in the same house dying of cot death, you multiply the odds of one cot death by itself. This would only be true if cot death was not affected either by genetics or the environment in which they live, but the defence failed to pick up on this obvious flaw.
And remember that quite outlandishly improbable things happen every week. It's only 1 in 45,000,000 chance of winning the lottery, but it doesn't mean that the person who wins must have cheated.

Nobody should want anything, other than justice to be done.
I don't know what that is, but that's because i've only seen a fraction in the media of what would have been presented in court.
I have no reason to doubt our legal system. If there are problems with the evidence or any of the witnesses then she can rely on the available appeal procedures
