[Albion] Could the Forest debacle turn out to be a positive for our season?

I’m going to make a bold prediction. I think we’ll finish above Nottingham Forest.

From what I can see, the only teams Albion have never finished above are Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. I think one of those may be chalked off this year. The others will take forever.

Forest have massively overperfomed. At the start of the season they were given a 47 point head start on Man City in the Handicap betting to win the Premier league (for context Southampton had 50 and we had 32) depending on your bookmaker. They are due a correction which is probably in the form of injuries or Chris Wood turning shite again.

I think you have a point but don't let anyone take you on in an even money bet! It's about 7/2 as a punt if it was offered according to my fag packet and seconds worth of calculations.

It’s difficult to judge based on one game, but it felt like a sea change for our manager tactically (I wasn’t at Chelsea at home, so the tactical side wasn’t as easy to see from behind a TV). Hopefully he’s realised he won’t get away with being totally open every game and sticking one in midfield. If he has, then that itself could justify the 7-0 loss, as it’s likely to lead to better performances and results for the rest of the season.

I’d never accept even money to overhaul a 10 point gap. It’s just I could see Forest losing their next three and us closing the gap over those games and then maybe we’ll catch them by the end.

It will be extremely interesting if the Albion beat the Saints 0 - 4,

3 wins in a row.

I think the response from Fab is probably the most encouraging- no wholesale changes - just add Baleba and learn from your mistakes.

Listening to what players like Joel Veltman and Jan Paul van Hecke have said since, it does sound like that horrible experience has served for the players to raise their standards (and, intensity, obvs) and really kick on.
I think it’s more about the manager realising that possession football is all very well but there is absolutely no point in spending 75% of your possession in your own half. I can see the point in drawing the opposition towards your own goal and reducing their number in their own half, but to then try and tippy/tabby your way forward just becomes difficult and kamikaze.
It would be interesting to see a season’s analysis on the % of wins where a team had less possession than the losers.

So far this season in the PL , we have beaten Man U (twice), Tottenham , Newcastle, Man City, Bournemouth, Chelsea with less than 50% possession.

Only in wins against Everton and Ipswich did we have more than 50% possession.

Most of our draws against lower opposition have been well over 50%.

Overall possession stats for Brighton 53%

I think next week we should just keep kicking the ball upfield to Southampton and let them have it.

Aside from the 3 points and the hit to our goal difference, it’s a yes from me.

I think the person who has gained the most from it is FH… As someone still adapting to this league, it opened his eyes or at least appears to have done.

I would say it's too early to say. Same as it was WAY too early to be 'Fab Out!', so two wins against a team with their own problems does not mean that all ours have been solved just because the players and the manager had a good chat.
Let’s face it, most teams we’ll play in any given season will have their own problems - even Liverpool have had some mixed results recently. It’s a matter of overcoming your own and exploiting theirs. If you’re refraining from praising the manager until he presides over a win over a flawless team you’ll be waiting quite a while.

Eh? I'm not refraining from praising him, that wasn't what this thread is about.

I mean, you said it wasn’t clear he’d fixed anything just because we beat Chelsea twice  A lot of us believe he has learned from his mistakes and made immediate improvements.

Clearly there were questions that needed to be answered.

Players and manager did this quickly and emphatically.

I don't doubt that there will be similar issues in the future, but from what we've seen there's every reason to believe that he'll be able to deal with them.
